Heavy Snow in Austria
Started by User in Ski News, 1 Reply
Verbier had a decent accummulation on upper slopes too. 3300m is high and all moguls on Mt Fort disappeared. But from 2500 m down to the village is very icy. Hopefully some more snow arrives as it's needed badly pretty much everywhere across Western Alps.
We had 80 cm. Good for NY week but honestly could do with another meter to consider the season saved. Bad season 10/11 had bigger depth at this time and dry/warm 7 weeks destroyed all this lovely base almost completely.
Quite shocking that there are still non-equipped cars in winter in the mountains. When will people learn?

Still snowing here and not lightly. Opening is delayed, with only 2 lifts running, but more will open later. No wind at all until 2700 m and at altitude winds are reported to be very light. Went up yesterday but didn't last even 2 hours due to lack of any visibility. It was fun though and powder is light and fresh, not cement we were getting last year. North-facing slopes will be dangerous for quite a while, but we have enough South and West-facing slopes, just need sun to come out to let things settle a bit.

Yep, there is a bus shuttle between Siviez and Nendaz leaving every 30 minutes, the last one at 6pm, Which basically means that you don't need to watch the clock so much skiing on Verbier side. As long as you are on last jumbo to take you up to Col de Gentianes or last chair up to Chaussure you have plenty time to ski down and catch the bus.
Same here, watching cars turning into heaps of snow)))
Finally snow arrived, skiing next week will be very different from skiing this week. It's also very cold so snow will stay fresh and slopes will be less crowded - not many people will brave -25.

I was thinking the same. Not in a rush to go off piste just yet, can wait couple weeks. But it was nice to wake to almost forgotten sound of snow ploughs :) 20 cm on the balcony already!
