Awight Tone, you know I love the Hof, but it's the most uniformly red run resort I've been to!! The blues are either short or narrow and windy. And not so many black runs other than the hilariously funny Hara Kiri ;)

Mag wrote:Any suggestions of where to stay iin Saalbach? Is it good for Christmas?

I stayed in Hinterglemm but it was the week before Christmas. Fantastic hotel - http://www.hotel-theresia.com/designhotel/de/willkommen/

it's a bit on the top end of the scale, but I can't praise it enough here, take a look at my blog. IMO Saalbach would be the better place to stay if hotel is not your top prio. More bars, eateries and generally livelier.

Hehe, the irony!!

Go with Tony's suggestion of Saalbach Hinterglemm - Leogang. Mind you will need to do some cruisey reds to access the blues, but it's a milage area for sure!!

I struggle with affliction daily, I have no turned my attention to European Glaciers, the relative value of the $ against the € and how to tick off the final 19 days I need to do before September to get 60 out the season.

Beer helps the symptoms but does nothing to address the underlying cause :(
Anyone been and any good?

I know I sound like a parrott, but if you want 3 or 4 days on a glacier at that time of year then Hintertux is a better bet, more than twice the amount of available distance and mainly chairs or gondolas. Okay Tux is a little quiet, bit this can more than be made up for by the deals you can get on 4* spa accomodation with good eating. I rode the Hintertux on the 4th of Oct 2008, 80cm of new snow the night I arrived, sun for 3 days and about 70km of piste open. There are also a lot of equipment testing weeks up there.
Wow, thank you all for the suggestions however far flung, I'll look into them when I'm on a proper computer. The reason for the Lakes or Glencoe us logistics. She lives in Hexham so it's a short hop over to the lakes. The Glencoe idea was because I could kill two birds with one stone and take her to see Grandparents in Oban. Might also get my old man to come climbing with us, although unlikely as he broke his back doing it in his youth and never went back to it.

Unless Pembrokeshire has mountains of at least 3000m that I can reach after work on Friday, I think it's safe to say I won't be emigrating there. Sorry Ally ;)
Sorry folks not ski related but you strike me as the best people to ask. I don't get to see my daughter as often as I would like so we had planned a weeks camping in August. I talked to her mum and asked if she had any objections to me taking her climbing, abseiling etc. They both thought it a great idea, so I'm looking for somewhere both me and little 11 can learn and although we may not do it together we can share the experience at the same time.

Any suggestions? She will be 10 years old. I will not be far behind :)

Hmmm, how can I make a banner given 1 hours notice, a comfy seat at the bar, I might streak instead, it'll be easier ;)
