Fun in Dorset this morning on icy roads - raining hard now though:

I think the quality of the skiing in the Tarantaise is unsurpassed - how many hundreds of kms of slopes within an hour or so of each other with Val Thorens, Meribel, Courchevel, LA Plagne, Les Arcs, La Rosiere, St Foy, Tignes and Val D'Ise to just name the main ones.

France has the best lift systems in the world, and the most extensive ski areas in the world. Yes the resorts get busy in peak weeks and if you don't know how to queue, you may take 15-20 minutes to get to a lift, but I'd bet you'd spend less time on the slopes in many other resorts around the world.
Architecture can leave something to be desired as there aren't many traditional mountain villages in the major ski areas, but the mountains are pretty dramatic. There are also plenty of excellent restaurants in the mountains if you know where to go. Ultimately it depends on which boxes you want ticked! :x |

Humidity plays a big part along with the wind. Although the air holds less mosisture the colder it gets, 85% humidity couple with wind and severe cold will make the cold reach down to the bone.
+2 in most of England will feel colder than -7 in the mountains due to the very high humidity that prevails here. -5 to -10 is probably about ideal. |

Champagny is halfway up the mountain. IIRC there's a hidden valley which looks onto the side of the Grande Motte at Tignes, and there is a nordic area there. If theres snow down to Champagny there would be snow there.
My memory may have failed me though!!!! |

I suspect therefore than you might not get out of the Courchevel valley more than once, so a C'vel valley pass might be your best option.

How long do you have between your morning and afternoon lessons, and how much of that time will you ski? What other free skiing time will you have?
It used to take about 20 minutes to get up to the top of Saulire on the bubbles from Mottaret and Meribel Centre. |
