Great overview Andy, it's a great resort that offers so much variety that is easily accessible.
I need an excuse to go again.

Val T is good on a clear day but once any cloud comes it is an awfull place. No trees and everything is just white. I had to ski back to Meribel in a white out once and it was so scary untill we got lower and coud see the side of the piste.
It's a nice place to ski but I would not stay there.

Should I go to France?

I am kinda with you on this Tony. I am not a fan of France either but tend to always go back to ski. Depending on where you go I find the lift systems in France very good. The food is not great, but I can always find somewhere descent enough to eat and the Après is not great either but I can get drunk at home too so it's all about the skiing for me.
Sun holiday to France....never.
Ski holiday to France....usually because it is easier to organise than Italy.

Just saw the 'Should I ski in Austria' thread now!

Booked Les Arcs 1800 today for a week in early Jan. First week on the snow since I had kids!

Go to Italy! Well in saying that I just booked a week in Les Arcs 1800 today. The main reason is that it was really cheap, 398 euros for a week self catering. I am hoping the ski area is as good as the 3 Valleys which really is a great place to ski. I have been to Meribel 3 times now and really don't like the town at all but love the skiing and the fact that even in three trips I have not skiied it all yet.
The point I am trying to make is that if you want excellent skiing then either Les Arcs or La Tania are good choices. If it is a pretty resort that you are after then you might be better to look at another option.
Dolomites, where to stay?

Thanks for the ideas. Collett's Mountain Holidays looks perfect for us.
