I'm not sure but here in Scotland it is 1 in the afternoon ;)

Melbourne is potentially my favourite place ever.. I stayed in South Yarra for a couple months then at the Medina Grand on Queen Street, seriously cool city. Don't even get me started on the food.
Pablo is always online when he has assignments due
Skiing in New Zealand

Not skied in NZ but I have a few friends who were there for the season last year and this time round... they loved it but don't be expecting a totally alps-like experience.

As for instructor courses, I did one in Banff with Nonstop who also run a course in NZ. If you want any info. about Nonstop of the NZ course give me a PM and I can give you some details. Be prepared for the best 3 months of your life.

That is all,

Eileen Gormley wrote:You can have great skiing, but learn to read the piste map so you follow the sun round the mountain and get there just as the sun is softening the snow, but before it turns to slush.

^^^ Excellent advice.

Yes, it was George Best, and I remember being annoyed because he'd had a liver transplant and then wasted it by continuing to drink. It must have been heartbreaking for his family and friends.

My husband and I both have/had relatives who drank far too much/alcoholics and now I don't drink any and he drinks very little (like a couple of glasses of wine at Christmas).

I'm glad to hear you don't drink much. I wouldn't have thought students could afford to drink these days, it's incredibly expensive especially if you drink out in the pub. When I was a student one of my female friends used to drink 10 pints per session - I wonder if she's had a liver transplant yet :?:

I spent £50 last night :( I am doing OK with money actually, zero student loan thus far and some savings tucked away

I don't think I could drink 10 pints and be alive .

caron-a wrote:I've been following forecasts, webcams, etc for Tignes but, without experience, I've no idea how different spring skiing is compared to winter skiing weather-wise.

The temperatures seem to be consistently above zero and the sun appears to be shining on all of the webcams every day (even at 6:30pm which is hard to comprehend!).

So, do people usually need thermals, inner gloves, hand warmers, etc in these conditions? I'll take them all but is it a case of playing it by ear every day or is it usual that people are skiing/snowboarding in bikinis and trunks ?

Any advice welcome

Things can get pretty warm, if you just have a shell jacket it means you can control how hot or cold youa regoing to be pretty easily. Base layer with a jacket on top does the trick for me when it is warm here, I think I'd look like a fool skiing in just a tshirt so I would never do that (some people do), if you think about it no one wears just a tshirt when it is 10 degrees at home.

I love spring snow.. chances are it will be getting too slushy later in the day so you will give up and go to the bar
