When am I an "Old Codger"?

And Rose,

When you are skiing (or riding the chair) today's events will come to mind and they will provide you with a good laugh. That's the important thing in life ... laugh and don't let any of what seems bad get you down.

Your day's story sounded like an episode from Faulty Towers. :!:

We had the first snow of the season in Nova Scotia today .... all wet and will be gone by morning ---- but it is a start.

tino_11 wrote:Mike, now that looks like fun, but all the padding is a bit girly really.
tino,

I agree... how can the medics be efficient if they have to cut through all that padding to get to some decent compound fractures?

It does look like fun though doesn't it. Roller derby on ice

If I go - I'm leaving the padding at home .... no pain - no gain :!:

Here is what they do in Quebec City on this side of the pond. It must help to kill the boredom of winter for the non-skiers. The daft non-skiers

The Welsh dam would be tame if frozen - in comparison.

I have seen the advertisement for the 2009 version of this "fun" event in the Halifax rinks. This is where being an "old codger" has its merits :-)

tino ... you would love this..

There are several other video links once you have this one.

Talk about pain :!:

If you want snow, you'll have to come to Europe, you know it makes sense :D

Bandit,

Some people say the guy that dies with the most debt is the guy that "won" at life. Maybe as skiers we could think we won if we catch the most air off of the natural or groomer made bumps!

Snow has made it into the Nova Scotia forecast for tomorrow night - finally - but very little and wet snow. It would be great to go Europe for a skiing trip. All of you make it sound enticing :!: Local clubs here have made the trip to Italy and other areas; and have come home with some great stories. :-)

Methinks your quote should read....Ohhh, the half pipes they are a calling
Not to mention the rails and kickers )

Hi bandit,

You are correct, however I don't have literary licence to alter greatly - but you did catch my meaning.

And besides - I don't believe in half measures :!: Go big or stay home.... and I hope not to become that lonely old codger

The kickers I can go for, but the rails I'd stay clear of. I don't trust them such that I wouldn't damage the skis. If I were to damage the skis off a kicker - I'd likely be damaged too and my wife would hide them after that

Can you tell, I need some snow time s o o n!

Slippers for Chrimbo for you!

Thanks mfc ... but slippers  Never wear them thanks! But if they came attached to a pair of twin tips, say like Atomic Triplets HP --- well, then I may "force " myself to wear them. Ohhh...The pipes ,... the pipes they are a calling...

You see, my unwritten motto is to disprove "with age comes wisdom" :D

I have adopted a personal slogan ... AGE IS BUT A NUMBER
and I plan to live by it. My present number is a fast fading 55 and having only started skiing 8 years ago I expect to be skiing long enough into the future to actually become "accomplished" at it.

I like Rose's list. Especially #'s 4 & 17.

The older we become the more secure we should become with ourselves and as long as we enjoy what we're doing what matter is age?

So if you consider yourself an "old codger" you may become one ... and if that's what you want then there's nothing wrong with that either - just maintain a "young at heart" attitude; because you wouldn't want to become a lonely old codger.
