Pavel, that is all true. I had good weather for a week, then low cloud and mist for another week. My everlasting memory of Whistler is following two locals straight down the fall line on Blackcomb Glacier, in a white out. It was a full speed run, just as though we could see for miles. I could only see 10 metres, and was following their vague shadows. It was the most amount of trust I have ever had in my skiing life. I wished I could have met them to thank them.

Dash it, that didn't get the video up at all. Where are Far Queue and Trencher when you need them!

You are a kind man, Pavel. In response to some ladies' requests, I did enter 4 videos on youtube two seasons back. [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=C8N6ehcVpKI[youtube] |

It was 8 years in the planning, with fierce resistance from old diehards. The two valleys have played major roles in Tirol history, the Wildschoenau centrally in the Napoleonic resistance, and the Alpbach in the formation of the Marshall Plan.
I think it will give a good option, adding to the good runs in Niederau, and the wide open fields at Auffach. The next move will be a link to the skiwelt, but I fear that will be another 8 years..... |

One time, a few years back, Trencher fooled me, about the one and only particular technique. He used a Smiley, but back then, I did not understand Smileys, And I indignantly replied, listing a minimum of ten different ski techniques. Then he told me about Smileys!
Somewhere in North America, there is an Austrian, and he is teaching ski instructors a particular, a downward unweight technique. He learned in Niederau! He then became the Tirol teacher! He can ski many ways, but is a specialist in this one method. I learned this way a long time back, but he is, by far, the best demonstrator. Last season, I changed my method on some days, because the conditions were right for that. My ski buddy said ~ "Mac, you are skiing differently this year, you seem to be floating, why is that?" I told him I had studied all summer on a variation in technique, to push the feet out wider on each turn, but to keep the force on the ski the same as normal. Each year, we can look to change and improve. |

Coop, what you said was ~ "and then hopping over to Auffach (5 mins on free bus) to do the more challenging runs over there."
That is what I was picking you up on. Most of us think of Auffach as flat, but wide open, and enjoyable. All the main runs at Niederau are much steeper than any at Auffach. In particular, the Lanerkopfl/Hochberg combination is rated highly in Tirol. |

NEVER:
-Wait until a German leaves half a Wienerschnitzel., and then nip in quick, as he leaves, and finish it off before the waitress gets there. -Seize an opportunity, like when a waitress delivers an ice cream desert to a drunken German, just as he is getting up to go to the toilet, and just never - nip across, eat the ice cream, and get back to your table, stare forlornly into your half empty glass of milk, and watch the German arrive back, gaze at the empty plate, scratch his head, and call for the bill. -Cut a set of inner soles for your boots, from a carpet square hidden under the bed. Especially when you have to face the haus frau next season. |
