What skiing on ICE teaches you!!!

Ice teaches you;
-to go to bathroom before skiing

Doesn't make any difference, Pavel!

I too enjoy skiing on ice. It maintains one's respect for technique, and how gentle skiing can be effective.

Pavel,
This is uncanny. My first ski wear was ~ home made ski pants, stitched together by the sister of a member of our folk group, ~ and my jacket was also ex-army camoflage, desert thickness, (ie, dead thin), five shillings from Ellis Brighams. That was when Ellis had only one shop, in Cathedral Street, Manchester. My skis were wooden base, painted, screw on edges, cable bindings, Elan Jets, £3.00, also Ellis Brigham. I am not even going to mention my first ski boots' suffice to say, four laces were involved!
My first racing skis were Kneissl White Star, 215cm. But they also had to double up as off piste skis. (since there were no piste machines!)

The queue for the naughty step gets longer..... Admin, bare all.
Agree with Tino on Filzmoos. In respect that you can ski right into the village. No ski bus. Really important if you have 3 young uns and 4 pairs of skis/sticks.
Agree with Coop re Niederau, close to the slopes and one of the top Austrian ski schools. Disgree with Coop that the runs at Auffach are the that challenging when c/w Niederau ~ good fun though. When you were in Niederau, did you not ski the Gseng? (This is the run you see under the 4 man chair. Alternatively, the Stock? This is the bottom section, under the main gondela. Drop over the edge when instead of cutting right through the trees on run 19.

Sorry Pavel,
I have:
~jumped off the chairlift, but only 10 ft.
~ taught my wife and sons to ski, (but never had a ski lesson!)
~ not jeans, but cordoroys, just as sinful. Bot it was aeons ago....
How skiing is so much like tennis!

I noticed another connection, when I returned from Austria, and turned to summer tennis. From skiing all winter, and making fast correction manouvres, my raquet pick-up speed has become among the fastest! I get a fast ball hit directly or close to me, I can always get a raquet on to it.
The downside, of course, due to all the winter fast correction manouvres, is that my knees take a month to recover!
How do you handle skiing on ICE?

Sorry, Pavel, but my season is spoken for. I have 3 locations in Austria, and a month in New Zealand in between!
There is a high chance I will be in Vail and Aspen next year!

Heil Pavel! Not heard from you for a while.
So you said: "Think of skiing on eggs when on ice! By soft and gentle on ice!"
I agree totally. This is the key to succesfully sking on ice, whatever technique you have adopted. It is difficult to think "ski gentle", but with ice, if you become agressive, then the skis just slide away from you.
I do own one pair of K2skis where I can ski strongly, but they are long skis, great torsional stiffness, and have always been invincible on ice.
However, I find that this is not the norm. Stay gentle, and remain in control.
