Wait a while, the Italians all have second homes and are getting into trouble.

More and more on sale, but prices still too high. Give it another year at least.

Don't buy small studios. Clients are looking for quality and space these days. Not a 1970s shoe-box.

French half-term is until 12th March. The next week will be busy with the 'no-kidders' and accommodation is scarce. Suggest you try week of 19th onwards.

If your girlfriend has never skied before, make it one with decent nursery slopes and a good atmosphere.

I'm in Montgenevre, just around the corner from Serre Chevalier. It's good for beginners and intermediates. The nursery slopes start high.

There's no point going to a resort with a glacier that you can't ski if you are a beginner. make sure the village and nursery slopes are high to begin with.

I highly recommend Montgenevre and would be happy to quote.

Montgenevre
Christmas Skiing advice.

Dates this year will probably be from 24th - 31st December.
Snow this year was excellent in Montgenevre. Christmas is more expensive than January, but cheaper and less crowded than new year and half-term (about 1/3 cheaper).

This year most resorts probably had better snow at Christmas than they did for half-term week.

Get a nice chalet, roast a capon, bring a few small presents... lovely
Montgenevre is a great 'No queues' resort, even at half-term. It also has great ski school. The runs start from the village, so it's easy to get back in time to pick the kids up.

Lunch won't break the bank either. Lots of great intermediate runs in Montgenevre.

Kids can get the top of the mountain and ski all the way down on Greens.

Might be worth giving it a go.

Kids and Queues?

A strategic pole between their skis, a wide ski stance, elbows out. If all else fails opening their bindings....

Parisians and Londoners don't get the game but have a natural talent. Fights are more likely to break out when it' the stressed out execs with families skiing than on a week with families from the regions.
Kids and Queues?

I'm with Ian on this one. When you have a general Melee you need to work your way to the front, if not aggressively, then with a certain forcefulness. No concessions to the kids or the oldies. As a child it was a game to be played - Who could get the the front quickest.

Having said that, working in Montgenevre, I am out of practice. Queues don't really exist here.
Another foot of snow at the beginning of last week 14th - 16th. ... and about 5cm this morning.
February 16th 2011, 15.00 local time

It started snowing Monday night (14th), carried on through to Tuesday night (15th), stopped a bit, and then carried on and still does. As I write large snowflakes falling. Snowfall to date about 15cm.

Weather system coming from the east (Italy), Lombards. Reports of 40-60cm snow on Italian side of Mont Chaberton (Sauze d'Oulx, Sestriere, Sansicario Claviere. The Marmotta restaurant at the Top Of Sauze d'Oulx reports 30cm fresh snow with clearer skies forecast tomorrow.
