Do they wear a helmet? I'd go for that first. Back braces are certainly worn more and more by the off-piste two-tone crew. Most injuries on piste tend to be to the knee ligaments. Then the head.

I recommend the hot chocolate stop with chocolate bar of choice....and the rum ration for Mum and Dad.

Also gives your fingers a chance to warm up.

First week in February, the snow should be at it's best wherever you go. Prices shouldn't be affected by half-term.

Stay away from the bigger names or head for satellite villages on the edge of the larger domains.

Get you flights in early to keep the cost down, but bare in mind that most accommodation will be from Saturday to the following Saturday or possibly Sunday (depending on the resort, country or tour operator).

or... Take the overnight train (lunea in France) for a couple of extra days skiing.

Self-catering cuts the costs. Have a look at

if you want to do it independently it is probably best to book you transport early as that will be the bottleneck in terms of price and availability.

I suggest you go where the English crowds don't. You might then be able to get some late deals on accommodation. German Bavaria, Scandinavia?

I've heard that the British companies have reduced their capacity this year (it may just be a rumour).

Good Luck

I agree, avoid France in February, and avoid anywhere popular with the Brits from 19th-26th.

What about a Swiss interail pass from SBB?

Many of the resorts are linked to the great railway network. Maybe you could base yourself centrally and go for a Ski Safari.

Which are the cheapest resorts in France ?

Agree that the Hautes Alpes resorts are cheaper than their Northern neighbours.

Big ski generally equals big money, but you can get your money's worth. Montgenevre and Serre Chevalier are 95 and 105 respectively in the Resort Price Index, where Courchevel hits 145.

Good luck your search.
