Weather and Snow Update 2nd Feb 2011

It snowed from Thursday night (27th) last week through to Monday night (31st). An easterly blowing in from Italy. As a result From Bardonecchia through the Mily Way to Montgenevre the snow conditions are fantastic. Some snow reached Serre Chevalier and has covered the whole of the Milky Way, creating the best conditions since mid-December.

Tuesday and Wednesday Sunny but cold.

Long range forecast is for sunshine.

Deep powder, getting heavy but not over skied. Runs are in excellent condition although some of the blacks in the Rocher Rouge sector are a bit wind blown (better to ski down beside the piste).

On Tuesday 1st Feb I was able to ski all the way down to Cesana (1350m) and across the bridge.

February 16th 2011, 15.00 local time

It started snowing Monday night (14th), carried on through to Tuesday night (15th), stopped a bit, and then carried on and still does. As I write large snowflakes falling. Snowfall to date about 15cm.

Weather system coming from the east (Italy), Lombards. Reports of 40-60cm snow on Italian side of Mont Chaberton (Sauze d'Oulx, Sestriere, Sansicario Claviere. The Marmotta restaurant at the Top Of Sauze d'Oulx reports 30cm fresh snow with clearer skies forecast tomorrow.

Snow Report 2nd March 2011 for Montgenevre

Fresh snow again yesterday, a good 20cm!

We also had a fabulous dump of snow on the 14th and 15th of February.
Anything snowed out by the half-termers is back.

Daytime temperatures are still quite warm but nights are cold.

Snow report 20th March 2011 for Montgenevre

It snowed for 5 days from Saturday 12th March until Thursday Morning 17th. Another good foot of snow.

Great conditions on slopes, some of the best of the season. Off-piste is very heavy and avalanche risk is high. More snow than ever this season and apparently enough to see us through until 1st May.
