How do you handle skiing on ICE?

On hard packed snow I recommend a long slide turn. Don't try and edge as most skis won't do it. Turn and let you skis slide sideways down the hill, and repeat. It's much more relaxing than trying to do the impossible.
Where to Ski in late April

Stay High, 1800 meters or above, book late to ensure snow coverage. It won't be busy at that time of year.

The Alps are suffering from less snow than usual and high temperatures. Although things are fine for now, there is only one quarter to a half the usual snow this season.

If you want guranteed snow and a different experiencewhy not try Finnish Lapland at easter. Somewhere like YllasJarvi and Akaslompolo, giving you both the alpine and cross country experience.

Best Hot Chocolate in Montgenevre

If you like thick Italian Hot Chocolates I'd go with Gimont on the slopes and Relax in Town.

Evenings:

Eating out, as Freddo said, Le Capitaine is great value and excellent Pizza, but can be busy. At the Other end of Town, Ceasar's is a popular pizza restaurant.

In the centre you have the Jamy and Refuge for traditional alpine fare. Also the Cadelsol.

More upmarket in the back street you have l'Estable. On the main street you have the Cloche - small, intimate, good food.

Lunchtime in the Village:

Relax, Graal, Petit Creux, Cadelsol.
Otherwise eat on the slopes in Italy.
Weather and Snow Update 2nd Feb 2011

It snowed from Thursday night (27th) last week through to Monday night (31st). An easterly blowing in from Italy. As a result From Bardonecchia through the Mily Way to Montgenevre the snow conditions are fantastic. Some snow reached Serre Chevalier and has covered the whole of the Milky Way, creating the best conditions since mid-December.

Tuesday and Wednesday Sunny but cold.

Long range forecast is for sunshine.

Deep powder, getting heavy but not over skied. Runs are in excellent condition although some of the blacks in the Rocher Rouge sector are a bit wind blown (better to ski down beside the piste).

On Tuesday 1st Feb I was able to ski all the way down to Cesana (1350m) and across the bridge.

I use the Muvi Vejo, which is cheap, results are average and you need to make sure it really IS filing. With a bit of perseverence you can get some pretty good results though. All for around £60.

French half-term is from the 12th feb to 12th March so avoid France as the prices are sky high. British half-term is from 19th -26th feb so avoid popular resorts with the Brits.

You will get a genuine experience in Austria, and If you have a car can combine culture as well. For a change you can also cross into Northern Italy quite easily. Great food and quite possibly cheaper.
