Well having done lots and lots of research and flip flopped from Belle Plagne, Valmorel, Les Saisies and Chamrousse, I have finally decided on Chamrousse. Mainly for price. Les Saisies was definitley up there in my top picks and would like to go but for price this year I just dont think you can beat Chamrousse.
For 1 week 6 march 2010 going from manchester to Grenoble, it is going to cost £1600 for flights, accomodation, ski and boot hire and lift passes, self catering. i think that is pretty good and dont really think it could be beaten. Just thought I would let you know. Although still room to flip flop as I havent booked it yet lol. Karen |

Hi Mel. I am looking to something very similar to you. It will be interesting to see where you end up booking. I had sort of narrowed it down to Belle Plagne but other resorts still in the mix are chamrousse and legoang (well I think Leogang havent done too much research into it, not realy sure if you can ski to saalbach from leogang and on what type of run). I am looking at any country really, up for any ideas. I watch with interest

thanks for your replies. I have been looking in the holiday brochure and also diy. i think diy is going to work out cheaper. Have priced some fights on easyjet frmo newcastle to geneva. £270 for flights for 4 of us. is it ok going from this airport? This is the nearest easyjet flies to unless I am willing to travel to london or birmingham which is just not good. Have been looking at sites for airport transfers and it isgoing to cost over £600 return! I think we will hire a car. about £300 even if we just use it there and back and not in between we will save half the money.
Just looking on holiday rentals now for an apartment and i will nearly have it sussed. well at least until next week lol. I am still a bit uneasy about France just because I have never been there before. YOu have to try somethings once though. Just got to convince hubby to get the plastic card out that he keeps glued in his wallet lol! |

looks like I might actually be on to a winner this time with belle plagne.
Ok so next question. where did you stay and would you recommend it. Is there anywhere you would avoid? Also how expensive is it for drinks and eating out. If we are self catering and stay on a slope, technically we can eat in our apartment for lunch saving the expense for eating in a restaurant? Thanks for your repsonse. Karen |

Hi there
I think I have decided to go to La Plagne next year 2010. Probably around March time. We are NOT going in school holidays so can go pretty much anytime. there are 2 adults and 2 children ages (9 and 11) - a bit worried about going in January as I think it might be too cold for the kids, wanted to avoid February with school holidays, so thought March would be best. Is early March or late March best? I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of the right resort. Here are a list of things we would like but obvisouly we will have to compromise on some things. 1. Near a supermarket. We are going self catering (unless we can get half board for same price) so we really need to be close to a supermarket (although we will have a hire car). 2. ski in - ski out (but will this be possible with a car? dont really know how it works. possibly down a blue run (hubby and kids have one weeks ski school under their belts so could manage a red at a push). if not ski in ski out, then very close to the lifts. 3. nightlife - dont really need any but something for kids to do on a couple of the nights would be good ie sledging, swimming. not sure if i am expecting too much. or even if it is the best place for us. These things are just trial and error. Basically we are looking for nice easy cruisy runs, nothing too difficult (especailly as hubby thinks his achilles tendon is going to snap - left foot went a couple of years ago playing footy so dont want runs that are too vigourous). The other place I have been looking at is Grand Massif. In particular, Flaine. Does this offer more or less the same as La Plagne? Our main requirements are nice easy varied cruises and accomodation close to the slopes. WE are probalby going to book this DIY or should we go the TO way? Very grateful for your help. |

Up North (but I am sure it is nationwide) there is a website called freecycle. You register with your local one and you can advertise stuff that you no longer want and people will come and take it away from your home for free. YOu can advertise anything you want including stuff that no longer works. Or say if you are getting rid of a fridge freezer that still works but you are replacing it with a new one or getting a new kitchen fitted, you could advertise it and people who need one will come and get it. The same as if you need things. People have asked even for things including a car! and I have seen at least one car given away!
here is the link http://uk.freecycle.org/ |

Hi skigirl. It has been years since I went to Soll but from wht i remember all those years ago, it had great nightlife. I think the only drawback with soll is it is a bus ride to the gondola. Othere than that there are loads of pistes that link up with other areas and has some great skiing.
Good luck |
