And will you please stop mentioning the N word on every damned thread. You're worse than MacMan.

The only time I take a rucsac is if I have planned a painting afternoon on the mountain, and I need some big board space. Maybe twice a season. Otherwise, all in pockets:

1) Lift Pass
2) Small sketch pad/pencil
3) Camera
4) Spare hanky, to clean sunnies in the gondola, (I never wear goggles)
5) Wallet, containing insurance details.
6) Mobile, with bergbahn /lift company phone number loaded.
7) Rub-on wax

I do some speed gun skiing every year, get a little faster each year, and am touching 100kph. Once I got past the 90kph, I asked some local racers for advice on skiing quickish on carvers. They all gave the same info. ~ choose slight snowplough, or shallow parallel turns. In practice, the angulation is hardly noticible, but it is determined. As always, in these situations, one must retain a strong, but responsive leg action. ie the leg position must be strong, but you have to be alert to potential hazard.

Last year I made a big mistake. Halfway down a speed gun I spotted a transverse ledge ~ it had been made by a snowboarder standing across the line. I should have pre-jumped: my mistake was to rise up from the tuck. Half a second later, I was rotating backwards, and frantically counter-rotating with my arms.

Following faster Austrians down schuss sections ~ they almost always are doing shallow turns.

The aspect of the type of ski clothing on ski speeds is interesting. That would be another subject.
It's a fair bet we will see a number of these situations. It is the worst combination to have heavy snow onto not-too-cold ground, and then for the ground temperature to vary.

Its not his age thats such a feature as his daily routine: he skins up (his skis, not a phat one) and walks up the Ahorn Abfahrt, then skis it down in about 4 minutes. And then does it again. And again. Every day. His calves are as wide as my chest.

Wow, 10 inch calves!

Indeed, I think the good lady bought that from White Stuff. She just does things, and never tells me the price! She's a neat skier though!
