Absolutely, they are. I have been following this story since it broke in October. As much as I take the p*ss out of myself for skiing 215 long straight Kneissl White Stars, in any conditions, ice, deeps, moguls, it was all we had. There were no piste machines. Every run was off piste, then moguls. But skis have changed, and become safer. A couple of years ago, BASI changed the rule on ski radius, but that was to allow that the instructor could only ski on what the punters could ski on. This is different. The stats speak for themselves. This was a 6 year study. During that period, they interviewed "63 athletes, coaches and industry experts" Given that they would have spoken to every major ski manufacturer ~ (they wouild have left themselves open to being sued, had they not), that does not leave very many people at the coal face being interviewed. They change the radius, but they did not even address binding safety? Why? Well, binding technology change has big ramification for manufacturers, new design, research, test, tooling, marketing, stock, market acceptance, destocking. The cost is immense. Ski radius in an easy, minimum cost target. Professor Erich Muller said as much. Manufacturers are always on the look for low cost change ~ as my ski buddy Mel say, "ski manufacturers have a lot of mortgages to pay". It isn't just Bode Miller contesting this, Didier Cuche was early to protest, along with others. Hujara is showing a deal of arrogance, but that is understandable, because the process virtually excluded those most affected, and I guess he has reached a late realisation. Why does the name Sepp Blatter occur to me? |

Bad luck Lota. Absolutely right decision not to ski. Achilles tendon injuries are one of the worst injuries. They seem to take ages to recover, and there seems to be no point of confidence that the injury is fully recovered.

The Val'D run is typical of what is wrong in Euro run description. There seems to be no effective process of classifying runs. As Andy says, it isn't just the beginners that are inconvenienced, and in their case, put in danger, it also wrecks the run for more experienced skiers.

Hi Matt,
You have not pushed in the direction of any resorts or countries, so it sounds as though you retain an open mind. Bearing in mind the European economic situation, it is unlikely that you would be disadvantaged by waiting for a month, just to see what happens with the weather. A few weeks during a ski season can make a collosal difference in snow depths, and also in which countries and areas the snow depth favours. Open a bottle of wine, and watch some ski videos..... |

I didn't say all Aldi sallos.
The £250 sallos were hopeless, didn't even have decent pockets, which the Aldi sallos did. Also, the stitching looked weak on the spensive pair. I conclude the Aldi design to be better. I agree with Ian on the Dare to be quality, although that seems to have improved. Most of the Aldi gear is better than DTB. Pockets on Jackets and Sallos need to be right for me. I always carry a camera, and most days carry a sketching pad/pencil. Occasionally a small w/c paint set. Some jackets purport to be ski jackets, and don't have a pass pocket on the LH sleeve. |

Even for you, that is unkind, and every word is true. |
