I am bored tonight, so I thought I would get some chats going (the last 2 at my own expense!)
Do you guys/gals take rucksacks on the piste with you? What do you have in them? My starter for 10:
Yes I do, contents:
1. Fleece to go under coat if gets chilly
2. Snickers - that turns to an ice cube within an hour. Perfect for dipping into hot drinks
3. Water - It is one of those with a platypus in it so I can drink through a pipe. Just remember to drain otherwise it freezes again!
4. Camera, ready at the top for comedy moments
5. Penknife - in case I need to kill and eat a moose for tea
6. Torch and whistle - as above or if I need to find my way back or need sos
7. Goggles/Sunnies
8. Insurance details
9. Photocopy of passport (dont know why!!)
10. Phone
11. Money
12. Boiled sweets
Thats about it. Is not a big un.
Do you take it off on chair lifts?
Next please :D

Guidelines from our holiday guide:
Care should be taken to avoid a frozen tube whilst skiing. A good blow before setting off usually prevents the problem. Better still buy a neoprene sleeve to keep your tube in. Care should also be taken to avoid a dribbly tube, as a wet patch can become uncomfortable.
I have two rucksacks, an tiny Osprey one which just takes a 2 litre bladder. And a Dakine Pro II which takes my off piste kit.
Both have zip up insulated pocket in the shoulder strap for the hydration tube. Stays unfrozen down to about -25c.

Are those guidelines referring to a drink tube or something else ;)
My tube is not insulated, but it is inside the rucksack and just pops the tip out. Still have to drain though.

The only time I take a rucsac is if I have planned a painting afternoon on the mountain, and I need some big board space. Maybe twice a season. Otherwise, all in pockets:
1) Lift Pass
2) Small sketch pad/pencil
3) Camera
4) Spare hanky, to clean sunnies in the gondola, (I never wear goggles)
5) Wallet, containing insurance details.
6) Mobile, with bergbahn /lift company phone number loaded.
7) Rub-on wax

About ski ruck sacks, what is it about special skiing ones that is better than a normal rucksack? Just the shape is a little flatter?
Also, can anyone recommend a decent affordable one? We're not doing a season or anything, just a week but will be taking a bag up the slopes and not sure if our jeep one is up to it?
