Saalbach, January 2013.

We were there in January 2011. Snow and weather were not good what spoiled overall impression. Well linked area.
Our favourite run was Blue run No:68 to Viehhofen. The longest in the area. Best done at the end od the day as there is only a bus connection back to Saalbach. Runs to Leogang are also well worth doing. Alte Schmiede mountain restaurant is a must visit on the way  The best moutain restaurants we encountered anywhere so far. Night sledging in Hinterglemm down 5 km run is also great fun.

New to France....where to go?

La Tania is a superb base for 3V skiing with plethora of blue runs in Courchevel and Meribel valleys plus 2 lovely home runs.

Do it. Its very good.

Yep, straight to the top of your to do list.

Most definetely a must :!: However in terms of lift interconnections it will be much better in 2 seasons time when Bruson and Savoleyers areas will be fully integrated!

Ranchero_1979 wrote:Obviously not in France but Cervinia would be good choice. Plenty of open runs, good food and enough nightlife for a week.

Cervinia gets my vote too;)

My Top 5 so far:

1. La Tania
2. Verbier
3. Whistler
4. Cervinia
5. Saalbach

La Tania - very friendly and a perfect location for Courchevel/Meribel valleys.
Verbier - Fantastic mountains let down by poor piste marking. Expensive!
Whistler - very nice mountains too but expensive, not much apres ski and long travel.
Cervinia - superb snow conditions but virtually all runs above tree line. Trip over the ridge to Zermatt is a must!
Saalbach - would have been better if it was not for the poor snow condition, due partly to low altitude, and accommodation.

apbtoski wrote:My vote also goes to Zermatt. Jungfrau is also spectacular but in Zermatt you feel completely surrounded by impressive mountains, valleys, glaciers etc.

Some other resorts have great views but limited in scale or extent. This photo below is at the Avoriaz/Champery border was worth a stop for a drink of two!

Apbtoski, thank you for beautiful pictures

Ian Wickham wrote:As Bandit has mentioned your most scenic ski resort is very personal, I find beauty in many alpine areas I have been to both summer and winter.

I can mention many, the Aravis, top of mottolino looking towards Bormio & Stelvio, views from Monte Moro towards the Monte Rosa I could continue but I'm bored .......

Thank you Ian for your 3 pennies

Would Monte Moro pass come under Saas Fee resort?
