Working for a TO is never going to pay enormous wages, but you do get lift passes, accommodation and food so any money you earn is beer money.
I did my first season in Chamonix in 1989 and got paid a measly £30 a week, however I still managed to go out every single night and stay out til dawn. Although I was a bit of a mine sweeper and obviously things were a lot cheaper 20 years ago. I did my last season in 1999 and was getting paid £100 a week. There are ways and means when you're working in a ski resort to getting things on the cheap or for free, the seasoners all stick together like glue and will help each other out. Obviously the more you earn the better, and if you don't get a job before you go you will need to take enough cash with you to see you through a few months, just in case. Whatever you do, you'll have a great time. I don't regret any of my time in the mountains. |

I bought my first helmet from Snow & Rock the other day, I asked the question about goggles being compatable with helmets and was told that all goggles fit all helmets. I told him I had heard otherwise (on here).
So, what's the answer? |

I was in two minds having never had the need for one in 20 years of skiing/boarding, but since Natasha Richardsons minor fall and sad death I have had second thoughts.
Bought my first helmet earlier this week. And I don't look like a cone head, I look more like this: http://blog.hostgator.com/images/mushroom.jpg |

Happy New Year one and all.
Am with TH on the crap 2009, I've had a pretty rubbish year and can't wait to see the end of it. 2010 here we come! We're off to friends for a sophiscticated evening (until we get drunk and have a go on the 'sing star'), turn up with some bubbles and nibbles, walk home, nice cheap evening. Have fun, be safe. |

I'm staying there in January! From what I've read its very close to the Solaise / Belvard lifts, there's loads of rental places in the village, unforunately I'm crap at remembering names of places, but the village isn't far from the chalet either.
Have you read the reviews on Trip Advisor? There might be some info on there, here's the link anyway: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187271-d656106-r29191067-Chalet_Marsala-Val_d_Isere_Savoie_Rhone_Alpes.html#REVIEWS Will let you know what I think when I get back! |

If you have the right visa you could work for a UK company, this would give you your accommodation, food, lift pass for the season etc, but its worth it if you want to make life simple (ie, get to the UK and they'll ship you out there so you can start work).
I worked in Mayrhofen (Austria) for a couple of years and that was full of Aussies, not much need to speak German there either, although obviously if you have a few phrases that helps, but most of the people there are english speaking anyway. Good luck, let us know what you decide. |

Hi, I went to Tignes a few years ago, it was January though, very very cold, great snow and as its high should still be great snow but not so cold in March.
Theres a few good bars in Tignes, no idea what they're called, unfortunately I'm one of those people that takes absoultely no notice of the names of bars or ski runs. You'll have a great time, try and get over to Val Disere if you can, definately for a ski, and for some apres if you can. |
