We'd never have that problem here. Every time I see a snow plough, absolutely no 'ploughing' was being done.
Hi Dan, welcome to J2ski.

I would cross Courcheval off the list, its outrageously expensive. Tignes is also quite pricey.

I think Austria is probably the better from the rest of the list and its mostly reasonably priced (Mayrhofen is also a good resort for everyone from beginners to advanced).

Rocket Ski do 'all-in' packages including ski hire/lessons/passes which can work out cheaper http://www.rocketski.com/ and Crystal/Thomson have a 2 for 1 offer on various resorts on certain dates if you are after saving a bit of ££.

I'm pleased this thread started again, I was concerned for your safety when I first replied yesterday but also understood you wanting to give it a go.

The skis and boots are definately old school but it will give you a taste of what to expect, you should come on the J2ski holiday next January and enjoy skiing to its full capacity (ie with a bunch of nutters in the mountains).

Be careful out there!
Now thats what I call a good dump.

I can't remember the most snowfall I've seen over a certain period, but I do remember one season in Mayrhofen having snow every single day for 6 weeks. It got a bit boring.
Another skiing noob.

Right, well this is a different kind of question.

Although we have a lot of snow, the conditions aren't ideal for learning, trying to ski in powder is something I am completely crap at and I've been skiing for 20 years.

If you have a dry slope anywhere near you I suggest you go there, if they have snow on their slopes it will be like 'proper' skiing, but you would need to have a lesson before they let you on the lift.

If you are adamant that you want to go skiing with your new skis, take someone with you and be careful!

Can someone else help me out here?
For those flying out this weekend....

Hope you all get there and back safely, this snow is great fun but not at the cost of anyones skiing holiday.
With the UK currently suffering under a blanket of snow its probably worth buying, and as already suggested TK Maxx have decent kit at reasonable prices, although if you don't want to fork out too much (you may hate skiing, but I very much doubt it), there are places to hire kit (apart from thermals / socks - eeew) if you wanted to get decent kit just for a week - for example http://www.ski-west-skiwear.co.uk/Hire.htm or just google ski wear hire.
VDI 2 for 1 Lift pass?
