Hi Brucie, sorry to hear about your accident.
I just got back from Soldeu late last night. The resort is doing well, plenty of snow on the pistes, and it had been snowing Saturday and also Sunday morning as we left, so there should be some fresh stuff lying around to play in too  It was heavy enough to force chains on the cars driving up from France. |

:D
Right, just completed the packing. Am just going to take the travel tickets round to the other driver so we can meet directly in the Shuttle departure lounge, then a quick chicken burger followed by a few hours sleep (although that rarely happens, just like being a kid at Christmas again). Aiming to leave home at 2am. To those who are getting home this weekend, I hope you all had a really great time. :) To those who are just leaving, then I hope this week is even better than the other lot got last week  Safe journeys everyone, in whichever direction you are heading. Hopefully back next week with a set of pictures and a report for Soldeu. FQ |

Annecy ranks very highly on my list of best places to see. The views are simply stunning by the lake. Hello Mr Doyle, welcome to the forum. OK, just a quick point, but your question states so I am assuming you will be using a rental vehicle. It may be worth your while to pre-book some chains, or at least check the prices for them, as they will be an addon. They may also want to "charge" extra for the fitting of winter tyres, so I suggest you read this thread as well Hire Car - Cost of Winter Tires Hope you have a good trip. |

Wow, I'm stunned. And you being an Aussie as well. Not much point retyping everything, but I totally agree with Mr Admin, you should have had no problem booking short duration stays in most decent resorts (school holidays aside, but as you are already back this was not the case). Plenty of people in the UK just pop over for anything from a 1 night to a 5 night stay. Ise is correct, the Swiss travel system just has to be about the best in the world. In my experience, they link their timetables for everything, trains, buses and even Lake ferries if you are using them. I have never had issues with the Italian system either, and in my experience most people in the Alps speak (to some extent) English (much to the shame of most Brits, who cannot reciprocate in any way), or they will be able to work out what it is you need fairly easily. Finally, you did not mention wether you enjoyed the Skiing and Boarding :-) Was it worth it? |

Ise, did you not consider harnessing the dog and getting a tow?
Seriously, I hope he was returned to his owners, and nice report and pictures as usual. |
