Return to Mayrhofen

I read a great story about Germans and a gondola last year. Apologies if I have already told this one, but its good - so there were a couple of Germans pushing everyone to get to the front of the gondola queue, they get to the front, put their skis in the rack and just as the doors shut Mr Liftie takes the skis out and off they go up the mountain minus skis

Anyway, I'd love to go back to Mayrhofen, its been 10 years and its sure to have changed. Its just that flight to Innsbruck that puts me off, although I guess Salzburg/Munich are an option?

I need to shed a few pounds too, staying off the wine in the week will help me, I eat sensibly and healthily, I know what I need to do.

I've got the Ingams book somewhere, its quite good for giving you a time scale depending on how much exercise you currently do. We're getting our bikes out tomorrow :D

So, last year was a bit of a fail on my part. I don't think I did much in the way of anything to get fit but I managed.

Must try harder. I'm currently doing yoga - is that any good for skiing?
We're looking at Les Arcs for an option this year. Have a couple of accommodation options but am thinking we may wait until last minute to book.

Hope it snows soon!

Not so much a 'what to take' tip but something I found quite handy in resort....

When you get there, make the most of the first few quiet weeks in resort to get to know other seasonaires and locals.

There are freebies to be had out there and its good to know the right people. And of course its always nice to have something to offer in return.

As I was working in a chalet we often had extra dinner to feed people that had given the odd lesson/ski tuning/free beer.

Its quite surprising how everyone helps each other.

Is that like a "holiday Harry" day?

A fancy dress outfit of some kind. I always found that quite handy. Although saying that one year we had a 'punter' day at the end of the season and dressed up in all the awful ski gear that had been left behind.

Cadburys chocolate. Lots of it.
