Yes, the Brachistochrone Curve does assume no friction.

Moreover, the theory only applies from an an initial point of zero velocity, hence Rainmaker can be taken to be partly correct, (allowing for the friction error), but is only true from an initial start point of zero velocity.

Hence, assuming an impossible but theoretical frictionless ski, the theory only holds for a single turn, when starting from an initial point with zero velocity.

I thought everyone knew that?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17988159 That will help with the lift passes :D
Yes, was thinking of a thread about this today. The TOs fix their lift pass prices at a date in the year, and it may be that this year, the brochure prices will be higher than resort or TO bus prices.

Icy, that's your cue to start the 2015 group holiday thread......

Good, Now that's sorted, maybe we can get back to sorting out 2016.

It does seem somewhat premature, two seasons hence. I'm still dropping HUGE hints to my OH about going skiing this coming week. I'm trading a new bathroom, cutting down a dozen trees, decorating the hall/landing, and installing underfloor heating in the conservatory.

She says that is double counting, I traded all of those for my January bash.

Thanks for the offer of ski guide for the group, but, I am busy that week.

Anyway, I agree that Niederau is totally unsuitable, it's a rubbish resort. You will never catch me there.

There is no colour about the place:

The ski rental is garbage:

No snow cover:

Too much inbreeding:

Another bad snow day:

Rubbish architecture:

The ski instructors can't keep their skis, (or their pants), on:

The drunks keep leaving their kit behind:

The wimmin have more style than the guys, and that is just unacceptable:

The place is just too crowded:

And finally, the area is just too flat for experienced skiers:

Nope, as I said, you won't catch me.....

That is so true, Pavel.

Piste skiers are used to pistes that are wide open spaces. On moguls, the piste is 3ft wide! Certainly, there ia less space for the skis. But there is also the consideration, that downhill goes in multiple directions. Keeping the skis together reduces the technical requirements for the turn.

Incidentally, you can ski the bumps, (downward unweight over the bump, then push the skis away during the turn), or ski the valleys, (upward unweight, push the skis away to initiate the turn, and downward pressure during the turn).

Moguls are formed when a regular ski run isn't pisted. In the USA there are many areas that piste 2/3 of a field, and leave 1/3 unpisted, so it gets moguls. It is possibly conceivable, that some skiers, might have, in the fullness of time, and taking all viewpoints into full consideration, well, some skiers, might have pre-dated , errm, piste machines.

Know what I mean?

She is a Brit, but gained her ski instructor qualification in Austria, is fluent in six languages, has lived all over Europe, but currently lives in Austria, works with the Winter Olympic committee, is one of my best ski buddies, a seriously, seriously, fast skier, dead heated with me in a race down the Marbachjoch in 2min 40sec for a slightly over three and a half km run, (we beat the head instructor), can out-party anyone, and has buckets of money.

Oh, and when she loses the daft brown jacket, errm, nay bad......

Apart from that, she is pretty ordinary, really.

 Wow, is she married yet?

Not new, FQ, AFAIK, she is still available, but man, you had better be able to hold your drink!
Iceman's gone very quiet!
