A lot of the Austrian resorts have Wellness centres. They seem to go into that side of it in a big way.
St Anton has a good centre. http://arlberg-well.com/index_en.php |

The guy in the light blue is the guide, from Piste to Powder. Highly recommended.
No one is allowed into the Valluga 2 lift with skis unless accompanied by a guide. And we had to do an hour assessment before the guide passed us off as good enough to ski the route. When they have to sign you in at the top you realise it's serious! There are a couple of steep bits where you wouldn't want to fall. If you look carefully here you'll see I'm one ski, having managed to step out of one, the other is about 40 meters below. Opps!: ![]() |

This is one of the competitors in the Woman's downhill on the Orange/OK downhill course in Val D'Isere last year. Good view from the lift.

You can now get a bracket which holds two Gopros side by side and a bit of software that turns the footage into 3D.

Just checked the calendar for when I'm in Val D'Isere. 4 world cup races over 2 days!
10 Dec Mens Giant Slalom Womens Super-Combined 11 Dec Womens Super G Mens Slalom Men's races on La Face Women's on Solaise, both the finishes are next to each other. Should be there early enough to see the introductions on the Friday night too. |

A mate and me once got a last minute deal to Meribel the week after new year for about £200. Chalet Astemy really nice, the people that were in it over New Year week had paid best part of a £1000. New Year there was no snow, just rain, at resort level and conditions weren't great for them.
As they came off the slopes on their last day it started snowing, continued right through the night and next day. We arrived in a snow storm, which stopped and cleared as we ate breakfast on our first day. It was the quietest week ever, superb snow and blue sky all week. |

Better give you mine.
For picturesque interesting runs, the run down to Oz on Poutran/L'Olmet runs in Alpe D'Huez. Fantastic, everyone has a smile on their face at the bottom of that. Jockeys black run in Courchevel is also a favourite, one of the most picturesque tree lined runs I can think of. I also love the ski routes of St Anton, R5 in Rendl and 18 above St Christoph down to Stuben. Or 15 the Schindler Kar. Black routes Les Arcs 2000, there are a number of marked runs which feed off the Aiguille Rouge black run, Varet, Genepy, Combes and Droset. All are left natural, all are steep and there are all sorts of off piste opportunities in between. La Face in Val D'Isere, a great challenge, steep, long and the Banana Bar is at the bottom! And finally for the challenge, The Tunnel. Few black runs compare for the drama of the entry, the view or the sense of achievement having conquered it. |
