My apologies if I was unclear. I was indeed suggesting a 'quiver' of skis at £500 each. All top of the range.

Nice! can we have the same for Italy please?

More like £1,500 with slalom skis (Rossignol 9s), Atomic GS skis and powder skis all available for euro90 a week and interchangeable. I make that 15-odd weeks.

If you really want to buy, go skiing at easter and pick up a pair in the resort sales, testing them first.
But with carriage and maintenance costs I agree with Peakmonster and OldAndy, best to carry on hiring. |

Helmets are to the head what ski boots are to feet and need to be fitted. What works for one head shape doesn't work for the next. Also important that his goggles fit. You don't want gaps that freeze the forehead or make you mist up.
Suggest a trip to a shop on boxing day or 1st day of the sales, and give him a coupon or IOU on the day itself. |

I'd suggest buying or renting when you get there. They know what they are dealing with and have the kit to match. -35c means nothing on a drizzly autumn day in the UK.

I used the small Muvi Veho for a couple of years and when it worked, it worked well. It did have a knack of not recording sometimes. Price is now about £40.
For me it's a toss up between the Muvi veho HD and the contour HD....but I can be persuaded. |

The Olympic run in San Sicario (Milky way), from the top of the Fraiteve into the village. It's 1 KM of vertical and 7 minutes and up of non-stop skiing. The run is wide, well-groomed empty red. Flat, no bumps perfect for long, fast carves.
I've attached a video of the top two-thirds, down as far as the Col-Boeuf. |
