La Thuile closed today due to wind

First day of four in La Thuile and it shut every lift at 9:30!
High winds were making the piste icy and I managed two runs before it was all shut. €40 for two lifts was not a great start to the holiday.
I'm hoping tomorrow is a bit better.

Forecast can be accurate in the mountains for a day or two at most. Relax you will be fine.
Try La Thuile, only 90 mins from Geneva.
I skied Cervinia in December from Geneva and it was two and a half hour drive but very easy as it's very good roads. Champlouc is nearer and is on the wish list too.

Les Arcs is the most expensive resort I have ever been to. I think it was €279 for the ski pass and about €8 per pint.
Mountain is ok but there is an awful lot of blue pistes that are basically just roads linking different areas of the mountain, pain in the arse polling along these.
The link to La Plagne is great though and I preferred the skiing there too.
Cervinia is great but there's not enough for a week of you ski full days.
Haven't been to La Thuile but will be there in 29 days.

I'm with you about VT, never stayed there wouldn't consider it having skied in and out a few times.
For the same reason I've never been to Tignes as I have ( rightly or not ) a bad impression of it being very like VT.

Reading your posts over the years Tony it's obvious that you have a similar opinion about what you want from a ski holiday as I do. A big and well connected ski area that's not €10 a pint.
I love Italy for the food and wine, the people and the fact that it's much cheaper than France.

However if you haven't skied the Three Valleys, do it. In roughly 20 ski holidays my 3 best we're all in the three valleys. It's far from cheap but the lift system and the ease of getting from one huge area to another in very little time means that even in a week of first lift to last you will probably only ski about 30 or 40% of it.
Stay in Meribel, Meribel Valley, Les Men or La Tania and you have great access to everywhere.
I didn't like Val Thorens and probably couldn't afford to stay in Courchevel.
I guess it's really down to luck, I had awesome conditions in mid March in Sauze.
How? What did she do?
