Organising non-family group trip for first time - any things to do or avoid?

Tony is right about cost, four days DIY is usually the same cost as a week with a tour operator.
However if like my ski buddies and I you have young kids or a non skiing partner its far easier to get away for a short break. Have a think about where you want to go and let your group know, most people are delighted to be told where and when and how much rather than do the hard work themselves. |

I do it twice every winter, it's easy enough.
I tend to go to Italy in March so fly to Milan of Geneva and go from there. Decide which resort you want first, then which airport suits best. Geneva is hard to beat as you can be in a huge amount of resorts within about two hours. What are you looking for? Great skiing, good après??? I tend to decide where to go and then let my friends know what the flight will cost and pass on all the rest of the details. I usually find that a handful book right away and others follow in their own time. |

I'm going somewhere with snow from Geneva on Friday 11th December if you want to add me to the list.

I reckon I was wrong about the skiing in La Thuile.
We ended up with three great days skiing in the spring sun and its a place that I would certainly return. There was five or six good and steep black runs that were always good and plenty of handy enough red and blue piste to cruise on. We preferred the far side of the mountain on the way over to La Rosiere too. I still feel it would be limited for a full week but was great for a few days. |

We do tend to go quick enough.
Found more today on the way to La Rosiere which was far better. We preferred the skiing in Ros too and covered over 50kms today including a very long button lift back up to La Thuile. Bald Eagleman, red 4 takes about twenty mins! |

Great day today, sun and no wind.
Funny mountains all the best skiing is close to the resort, three excellent black runs all close enough to the bottom. In saying that we had the whole resort skied by lunch time. The Planibel is excellent and the food is very good but so far La Thuile is a bit crap. |

Thanks Andy, hope you are right.
