I have thought about this...London to Grand Massif is 720 miles (my preferred route) which costs £90 in fuel each way plus ferry (£50-£100 ) and about a day to drive so with 2 up about £150 each return.
Against that Flight £100 skis £35 airport parking £25 transfers £65 = £210 then the saving you make in not having to buy food in the resort (bring it with or go to the hypermarket and I might not have to get up at 2 am to get to the airport and of course the flexibility of being able to go to different places and go for say 8 days instead of the prescribed 6 |

But Flaine itself is an awful place ...60s concrete that needs a refurb..The prices slope side are HORRENDOUS €3.2 for a packet of walkers crisps and €4 for a coffee..The skiing is good if you like pistes but les Carroz or Morrillon are a lot more friendly and I quite liked Samoens

no such thing as cheap transfers in France...this one is better though ...about on a par with what I paid last year http://www.alp-line.com/index/info/Book_Now/40?PHPSESSID=3ad8c69d151df650f9dc1bcd981246fa&widg_lang=1&fl_public=1&fl_agent=0&tf_depart_loc=3&tf_destin_loc=22&tf_journey=return&tf_adults=5&tf_out_day=16&tf_out_month=2010%2F0&tf_hidden_out_date=2010-1-16&id_submit=1&tf_link=1&id_website=1&tf_ret_day=23&tf_ret_month=2010%2F0&tf_hidden_ret_date=2010-1-23&Submit=Get+a+Quote Austria is usually cheaper for transfers but try Samoens on The Grand Massif I stayed in this guys apartment last season http://www.skifromgeneva.com/ Its oK for 2 or 3 definitely CROWDED for 5..and you might be able to get in at your price..especially in Jan..and the Skiing is excellent |
