How to get down steep narrow paths
Started by User in Ski Technique, 30 Replies
Here's some more classics for you Ian (straight out of We Learned To Ski - 1974!):

Uphill christies; stem christies; parallel christies;

The jet turn (very stylish); the wedel trun (same as short swings) and the avalement technique for mastering the moguls

All very dated but still a magnificent book!

Tony H regarding your 'pole turns', they called them 'short swings' when I was learning to ski in the 1970s (See the Sunday Times' classic book - We Learned To Ski)!

Tony H: thank you - the difficulty I have with a chalet option is that I'm flying very, very early on Sunday and home again on the last flight from Zurich on the Friday night. Doesn't really fit with the the usual Sat to Sat or Sun to Sun chalet deals.

Ise: thank you - Lenk looks a real contender! Train times fit very well with the flights, a few reasonably priced hotels close to the railway station have availability. Watch this space......

Thank you all; this is fun.

Adelboden looks good, but not that keen on a bus connection (very fussy!) so the old favourites of Jungfrau and Arosa are certainly in the running.

My budget is pretty flexible and the Jaegerhof in Zermatt looks interesting BUT I think the resort is probably just a bit too pricey for eating and drinking!

Will have a close look at Kandersteg next.

Keep them suggestions a-coming!

I am very grateful for all these suggestions - and I am enjoying researching all of them!

Been to Engelberg and to Saas Fee three times each - so probably won't do them again (unless the snow conditions force me really high!)

As for le Chable, interesting suggestion, but a four hour rail trip was a bit of a disincentive - and again can't find any accommodation!

I'm not being a fussy beggar but I have to be out on the Sunday and home on the late flight on Friday night!

Thanks all.

Unfortunately, Rust, the SwissPass I have is a cheap return ticket from border or airport to a single destination.

Had a good look at Zermatt, but the only single rooms available for my dates are either in a youth hostel (I'm 50!) or in the real top-end at approx £2,000.

Will have a good look at Lax next, I think.

I have a flight booked to Zurich and Swiss RailPass on March 8 but, as yet, have not decided on resort or accommodation.

Just wondering where J2ers might suggest (and to make it crystal clear I have no interest whatsoever in scuttling deep into Austria and going to Niederau! )

Suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.

Just bumping this to the top!

The internet yielded a little more info; would like some more!

Thank you
