The spirit of skiing

We have all met the occasional person who likes to put down, insult, denigrate. Fotunately, there seem to be few of these in snowsports, maybe just the odd one on J2ski. Because of their love of the sport, most ski people I have met have a true understanding of the spirit, essence, and love of the mountains.

One such person is Simon Kynaston, a British instructor that lives in Niederau. Sadly, last year, he lost his lovely wife, Lizzie to the most horrible disease. As a tribute to his lady, and to recognise the illness, Simon is walking from Niederau to Glasgow, the place of her birth, a distance of 2200 miles. At the time of writing, I believe he has carried out his mission in London, and will be heading north soon.

If things go well, I intend to meet up with Simon, and walk some of the Scottish end of the journey. Then, moving on, I will ski with him in January, and again, in March.

Please take a moment to read his moving story on http://www.lizzieswalk.com/english.html

That is a good suggestion John, and I don't think there would be much in it, c/w the Tux. It's 2hr 40m drive from Munich Airport. Ski in/out from 1740m village level.

A good natural snow history, traditional Austrian village.Great skiing.

Penelope P! Welcome to J2ski ~ I predict, with that sense of humour, you will be a J2 star!

Clearly, Mr P, has his burdens, and that is not just his ski lid.

I seem to have gone through the same issues. Last winter, Niederau, Austria, mid jan, I carefully selected a remote, steep area, put on a helmet, photoed meself with lid, and texted it to my lovely one, back in Scotland.

I then put the lid back in my rucsac, and skied off, wearing my DAVE MAC wooly hat.

Everybody was happy!

Yes, it is a bus ride into the adjoining valley. I love Jackson, it feels like you should be wearing a big stetson, or else you are left out!
We do have a "Rustyinn" J2skier, but I have skied with him, and he is way above inter, and has WD40 oozing from his skis..... there is nothing rusty about his skiing!
easiest way to innsbruck

Hi Millstreet, the last three years have seen snow at village level in Obergrgl, but not the season before. So most years fairly save. They will have the snow machnes working anyway.
In the evnt of a bad season, then there is the option of a daily transfer to Solden onto the back glaciers.

There is a good bus service from Innsbruck to the Oztal.

In that case, use the Deutchebahn website:

Heaps of ski areas accessed from here.
