Entirely in the wibble spirit, here is a watercolour I painted this summer, Torbole, Lake Garda. (Might also just qualify under the Dolomites section, Italy)!

Was also there in Jan 2011. Snow was good, but viz not great. RAF boys were good fun, my D-i-L's brother is an RAF BASI instructor, they were good regular skiers. From my observations average drinking capabilities, very much aware of the image they project.

I certainly agree the run over to Leogang is pleasant. The whole valley is good to ski. It changes in late March, as the south facing slopes suffer.

It's a great summer walking valley. I walked the area in 2000.

No sir, and I bow to your position to see them. I have seen them twice, once from our back garden in Fife, and once from the chairlift in Niederau. Neither was sought.
I love the way you have gone to look for them, and found them. The Northern Lights are beautiful.

For every ski trip, I do a cost spreadsheet. This covers:
Transport~ flights, train, car hire, taxi depending on the option
Accomodation ~ options, cost
Evening food ~ this may be incorporated into the Accomodation cost. Add a figure to assess after dinner drinks.
Day cost ~ hill drinks, lunch, pre-dinner drinks.
Lift Pass.
An allowance for incidentals.

It is easy to pull up last years spreadsheet and modify it.

Many airlines stipulate that there must be no luggage other than the sports item.

Are you saying you carried this on as hand luggage? 13kg is a BIT heavy for a carry on.....
If not you're agreeing in a roundabout way with most of us to pack them in your checked in baggage allowance.

Nope, that was my checked in baggage. Just had my laptop, camera, book in the hand baggage.
Having said that, unless they have changed, EJ do NOT have a max weight limit on hand baggage.

billip1 wrote:Thanks for the info Tony; I'll certainly be nipping out earlier in the mornings to catch the bus this Jan from N to Auffach. I was particularly interested that if the runs are "easier" they might suit my family more too; question though, does the Red ski school go there, as I like them, and my nearest-and-dearest certainly do ! I also notice from the new map that with the connection to Alpbach, there are plenty of blue runs available for them too.

Yes Billip, the Red school tend to use the slopes of Auffach as a transition from the Kropfraderjoch to the main Niederau runs. They also have a good mogul face, a channel, and some easily accessed off piste.
