Engelberg would be top of my list (never been to any of the ones you mentioned Tony). Lenzerheide looks cool as well....

I know it's not in your list but you may wish to consider 4 Valleys, you can also easily get to Nax, Arolla and Evoléne are also close by.
4 Valleys have over 400km of piste have a look at www.4vallees.ch

We have spent three seasons here, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Regards Helen
I had a week in Verbier in March 08 and loved the skiing there, but I want to try somewhere new. Thanks

Whats the problem with 140 in a cabine?
There are 2 in mayrhofen, 1 takes 150 and another 160, and I actually do find it funny when its full because it swings a lot going over the pylons, and you hear people cacking themselves!!!

Hi All

Slightly off message here but it seemed the best thread to ask my question without starting a new topic!

We are off to Nendaz in March do we need to get Swiss Francs is the Euro widely accepted?

thanks

Shazzo

Tony,
As has already been said, Wengen is very pretty but depending on ability it might not be right for you. The 3/4 ski areas in Wengen are all aimed at the intermediate skier, with the exception of the Schilthorn area (James Bond film area - well worth a trip up the cable car for views of the Monch, Eiger and Jungfrau mountains). Also, with the exception Kleine Scheidegg, the amount of terrain is limited and trying to do more than 1 ski area in a day is impractical. Sorry to sound like i'm putting a downer on what is a great resort, it's a perfect resort for the intermediate skier but limited for more advanced skiers. Also with the exception of First, it's absolutely awful for complete beginners (no progression runs). Hope this helps.

You will need Swiss Francs, Switzerland is not in the Euro, or the EU. You may find the occasional shop accepting Euros at a rate which will favour the shop not you.

You should also think about Muerren (across the valley from Wengen and offering more challenging skiing in a car-free, chocolate-box environment). I'm there every January.

In Suisse Romande (francophone), you might try Villars, from where you can ski to Gstaad and take the bus back. We were in Les Diablerete last year, which is between the two, and great for families.

Or we're off, again as a family, to Champery in March - Portes de Soleil, off the back of Avoriaz.

In all cases, I find the Swiss resorts more welcoming than the French factories. And ALWAYS use the train to transfer directly to these resorts - the biggest boon.

Cheers.

I've also heard good things about Muerren - recommended to me by someone I met on holiday
