You may want to consider Schladming - great ski area - an intermediate heaven, good ski school - a nice little town and cheaper than a lot of resorts.

Hey there, I have driven with my kids to austria to ski, as we have family in Vienna that normally join us.
I found a place called Hochkönig (high king) to be brilliant for families, beautiful areas to ski, very family friendly, 1 hour drive from Salzburg.

But I use a lad at a friends travel agency. I'm sure he won't mind me passing his details out.
Jamie 020 8619 0502. He's very helpful & may give you a few more options.

Hope that helps

Thank You,very kind of you to reply. I have booked a place near Pitztal. Well, not because I knew anything about it :D Just seems to be very busy over the Feb Half Term in Austria, so I 've managed to find the place there. Its is in between Solden, Serfaus and Area 47, which I think will become handy. We can go and explore different places, so next year feel more comfortable choosing where to go skiing. Any advice on ski passes and skis rent?

yarik wrote: Thanks Guys for reply! Some friends suggested Lech, some- Serfaus. We are driving from UK, so as close as possible to Uk. Although not too far from ski slops(decent driving distance).

Serfaus is a really good choice especially for self-drive. Lech more expensive.

As my username indicates I'm extremely prejudiced in favor of St. Anton and the neighboring areas. If you want to do your kids a giant favor, you give them a couple of days in the St. Anton ski school, which is regarded as one of the best in the world. The flip side of the coin is that apart from the slopes nearest to the village and up around the Galzig cableway station, there isn't much terrain suitable for the absolute beginner.
As an alternative I would suggest Ischgl which is more or less in the same area, but offers more and better alternatives for the not so advanced skier. Not quite as posh as Anton and Lech, but less pricey, more relaxed and with a nice, cosy atmosphere. Should be great for the kids too and will give you a taste of Switzerland as well, if you ski into Samnaun on the Swiss side of the border.

ski schools in kitzbuhel are expensive, smaller resorts are more competitive for example in lofer ,great for begginners and emptyish slopes because its not regarded as "cool" etc
stay out of the "cool" resorts and the boarders resorts....high prices and lots of noise when you are trying to sleep!.....great resorts but not for beginners....concentrate on learning to ski in quieter villages, not nearly as pricey...have fun

I presume that you've already been at your ski vacation, anyway i would recommend to go to one of these cities Klagenfurt/Innsbruck/Salzburg, they offer everything one can need for A first time ski vacation with the family, especially a vacation with kids.
You will find plenty to do, many places to eat and hang out with kids within these cities and each of these cities offer decent ski resorts that range from a 20-45 minutes drive, most with reasonable prices and family packages.
