Cant be arsed with carrying a lock. I do not believe my skis will be stolen unless there are russian/bulgarian gangs going round the 3 valleys again, and I probably wont ski there so not a problem.

I was more interested in why Ian told these guys to look after their equipment better, when actually we all do the same with our own skis......stop for lunch and plant them in the snow, lean them up in a rack, or lie them on the ground. I've never experienced ski theft anywhere I have been and dont expect to either.

Very unlikely to get them pinched on the mountain, you would have to ski down carrying them, also most chairlift/buttons wont allow it, so it would have to be the homerun.
Most of the time it is people innocently picking up the wrong ones ...this is where splitting them really helps...
However leaving them in the road outside a bar during apres-ski while you are drinking shots and forgetting all about everything and are out of sight of them is another story..
It is still very rare though..
High end snowboards are the most likely items to disappear
its all going rapidly downhill!

I don't agree that lifties are concerned if you are carrying skis. Because I elect to stay at one end of the village, I carry skis up a drag lift, and ski down to the village, dropping them at the service shop. Later, I pick them up from the service shop, take them up the Gondel, and ski home.

Blimey Dave, with all your experience I would have thought you could have used a drag lift by now and actually get "towed" up the hill!
