Happened to me at the Signal Restaurant in VDI two years ago.
I now carry and use a ski cable lock.

I use one of those as well and I appreciate the determined, professional would not be deterred, but I think the opportunist would look elsewhere. It also prevents the taken wrong skis scenario. I also like those heavy-duty ski racks at lift stations that cost a Euro; they seem an excellent solution.
And a lock also stops someone picking up the wrong skis which is the likely problem to face.
I'm guessing the skis were secure but unfortunately "Snow-man was" Stolen ........
...but at least he can be sure that if his skis go missing he only has to locate a lopsided thief with three legs... that should narrow the suspects down a bit.
