Wickers, you are incorrect, as Caron will be wearing a helmet for the 1st time this winter, so far...

I'm not sure you have grasped my point about modern piste preparation and compacting of snow to withstand modern skiing technique. It forms a very hard surface.

A skier would need a very thick head to withstand an impact of that nature.

In the event if any injury requiring you to claim on your travel insurance, it seems now normal for insurers to ask if you were wearing a helmet.

Ian,
I haven't worn a helmet before, and I'm going to try. I used to wear one when I rode a horse, and a life-jacket when I was sailing, and I suppose it makes sense.

I learnt to read at an early age so I understand your point completely, and as I have stated I have yet to hit my head on any piste I have skied, helmets are personnel choice while I accept it is up to the individual it is my choice not to wear one.

Two new helmet wearers is 18% increase, not huge but interesting.

We will be wearing them this year, nothing to do with accident in Canada, just a decision we both made.

If anyone is buying a helmet, dont buy it second hand. I did that once before and when i got home it fell off my bag and hit the ground, now it my floor is a wooden. But the helmet when it hit the ground cracked and a part of the helmet went inwards meaning had i fell i would probley be very dead. So since then il never buy a second hand helmet. No matter how nice they look, just buy a new one. Safe way to go.

Excellent point which can be extrapolated to replace your helmet everytime you take a serious impact on it.
