A friends' teenage ski racing daughter wore a ski helmet, and eventually the influence reached her father. Both skied to a high standard. On the 1st day of him wearing it in 2005, they were skiing together offpiste near their home. He fell and his upper arm hit a rock, breaking it quite badly (requiring a plate). He hit his head on the same rock, and split his new helmet, resulting in a lousy headache, which left him free to go oooooow over his arm.

Lets not turn this in to a snowheadsesque debate on helmets, some people wear them, some don't. Most people will wear them eventually be it through some ski resorts making it compulsory or an injury a bit too close to home.

In Sainte Foy this year my buddy popped out the trees and back on to a piste just after me not realising there was a drop and he hit his head hard enough that I was worried for his health (even wearing a helmet), had he not been wearing one I dread to think what could have happened.

Wickers, with modern grooming methods, use of snowmaking and the compacting of pistes to withstand carvers, then there is every possibility that the snow on piste is as hard as tarmac. Ever tried getting a pole tip into the stuff?

I have been skiing a few years, I've put a tip in the snow a couple of times and I have never hit my head and I have put that down to football and knowing how to fall, as Pablo says it is down to the individual and I really posted this thread to see how many people this season would start to wear a helmet, so far not many as they all seem existing users.
