Don't really do tour operators these days as the internet has made DIY so much easier.
But here's a few thoughts. 1. Virgin (to Heavenly - excellent service) 2. Crystal (to Fernie in Canada twice - not bad at all) 3. Ski World (to Courchevel 1850 - end of season, nine parts useless!) 4. Ski World (to Le Menuires and Saalbach Hinterglemm - much better!) 5. Inghams (to Saas Fee three times, very efficient!) 6. Mark Warner (to Kitzbuhel and St Anton, quality all the way) 7. Erna Low (La Plagne apartments, not bad at all) 8. Crystal (late deal to valmorel, much cheapness for best hotel in village) Loads of others I've forgotten but probably the very worst was the late and unlamented Horizon. Went to Kitzbuhel where the rep thought the flight being cancelled and arriving in the hotel at 4am (12 hours late) to find it locked and no-one about was (cue camp rep accent) "all part of the holiday fun". He almost got a smack on the nose. Ian Wickham: I remember going to Austria with Swans in 1975; does anyone remember Ski Plan (Sauze 1973!)? |

Thanks for the suggestion, Calvahead, but I don't really want to go anywhere near Verbier.
It looks likely (on present planning which is always subject to change!) that I'm going to a DIY three-centre trip in January taking in Arosa, Laax and then across to Grindelwald or Murren for a few days to finish - unless I can be persuaded otherwise!!! |

That's very good news - and makes it all the more tempting!

Obrigado bandida!
Looks very nice; have to say I'm veering toward being based in Grimentz at present. |

The time has come to start thinking about ski trips 09/10 - so here is the question: where to ski in Switzerland this season?
Dallenwill-Wirzwili? Hochwang? Tschterten? Chur-Brambuesch? Actually my eye keeps returning to the Val D'Anniviers; I know there are some correspondents on here who have intimate knowledge of the area. So would it suit me? Not bothered about lively nightlife - decent dinner and beer or three these days. Have been ski-ing for 35 year plus; like to cruise but I also like a bit of adventure as well. Also enjoy the occasional decent mountain lunch. Any answers would be most appreciated. |

I've been ski-ing since 1973 and in that time have had many group and even more private lessons.
I still have at least one on each trip; money well spent in identifying flaws that you didn't know you had and taking steps to eradicate them. Good instructors spot the little things and help you put them right. As I said, money well spent (but £150 a pop does sound a bit steep!) |

Yes, the winter goes on and on as the shipping forecast on Radio 4 long wave today reported wintry showers in Sea Area Rockall!
