Can I chuck Valmorel into the mix? (although I feel a little treacherous having said I don't intend to go to France again for skiing!)

Shortish transfer from Chambery, a little bit more scenic charm than average in France in the village - and a good variety of easy, cruising runs spread over a surprisingly large ski area.

There are even long green runs, if that's your thing, in some of the satellite villages.

A few years since I went there, but remember it was not so expensive as many of the supposed glamour resorts of France.

I used to go to Cervinia quite regularly a few years back - and the unwritten rule was stay anywhere but the aforementioned Lo Stambecco. Was talking to a couple on a lift and they said it had all the charm of the maximum security prison on the Isle of Wight!

Talking of hotels high up on the slopes, Engelberg has the Trubsee Hotel at the top of the second stage of the main gondola. See www.titlis.ch

Bandit, total travel time to Engelberg from Zurich is just under two hours, but quite often you can get lumbered with a 40-50 minute stopover at Lucerne (which can be something of a pain wit ski gear!)

Being Swiss and therefore sensible and practical, they don't travel further north than Manchester!!! :)

That's the deal I was on this week!

I use Swiss from Heathrow (www.swiss.com) but I don't know if they fly from Chile!

Go to www.engelberg.ch or www.titlis.ch

It says, in German, when the various lift sectors are open.

I had a grand old time so hope you do, if you get there.

Oh heavens! Don't tempt me!

I have nothing on next week (apart from the dentists on Thursday and that's easily postponed!)

Well that was a grand way to end the season. Lots of uncrowded spring ski-ing to finish it off in style.

Still pretty cold above 2,000 metres with impressive snow depths. Looks like the Jochpass will be open this weekend and the following weekend - and the rest of the lifts open until May 10 at least.

Quite sad to leave the slopes last night; it has been an epic season - and here's to the next one. :)
