Okay.. It isn't as bad as it sounds, but still.... I found rust on my skis!! :(
Small-ish dots of rust down the edges.. only a bit of it though.. will a simple service for edge sharpening fix this up? I'm rather upset.. they were my first brand new skis and have done me well for 2 years now.. P.S - 10 sleeps until Meribel :D |

A story indeed, and Tony you are correct about taking bigger risks - but it opened my mind more to hitting my head anywhere on the slopes, as caron-a mentioned above..
However, I have made a good recovery but suffer from slight twitches/sharp pain in the same area - not often, but it does happen.. althought it doesn't affect the way I do anything :) Yes I got a new helmet, shiny new from Bern :) |

Ok guys, update on the ski holiday!
We've scrapped the idea of DIY, simple straight-through transfers from Grenoble to BLB wasn't happening so this is what we've done.. Booked through Crystal a self catering package to Meribel, Mottaret. 23rd to 30th Jan 2010. 3 Vally lift pass Yada yada.. all the bits and pieces £487 for flights, transfers, accommodation, 6 day ski pass and ski carriage. The people coming who aren't taking their own skis etc.. it's an extra £50 ontop of the £487. Aint bad if you ask me :D So now it's official - BOOKED :D |

I just had a quick read through some of the postings in this thread - Some arguements I agree, some not..
I've posted about this incident before, but found it relative to this thead so here goes.. Yes, it is personal decision - But in my honest opinion - we MUST put personal safety first. I had an experience in September 2008 - I landed on my head from 10 feet on hard packed snow.. (My own fault I guess, I went off a kicker onto an airbag and shot straight off it) At the moment of impact, I was completely paralized, the medical crew were adamant that i'd broken my spine.. Couple of hours later I am lying hospital and after the Morphene wore off, I got feeling back in my hands first - slowly coming back round and got feeling in my upper body.. Yes, when I started to get the feeling back, I felt such severe pain it was unbelievable - My entire body siezed up and it wouldn't let go again which then made my spine hurt even more.. It turns out I'd badly damaged a muscle at the bottom of my spine - the L4 section. I was wearing a helmet when it happened - I was told by the doctors and surgeons who came in to see me that had I not worn a helmet, I could well have been permenantly paralized.. So for me, that changed everything in relation to skiing - I now wear a helmet even when just going to the Xscape for an hour or two. Of course, not with falling 10 feet in mind - but I wear a helmet nonetheless because the posibilities of hitting your head are endless - be it falling awkwardly or coliding with another skier/boarder. I like to enjoy personal experiences of such incidents, to give people another view to see from in terms of personal safety.. but I guess as always, nobody ever learns until it happens to themselves. Happy and safe skiing :D |

Hey guys, been looking to book up for a skiing trip recently, looking to go 23rd - 30th of this month - DIY to Meribel, Brides Les Bains.
Flying to Grenoble Anybody been here before? How did you get a transfer? Had a look online, but can only seem to find private transfers and they're around €135 per person.. Any help is much appreciated. |
