I am sorry to say that recently, Pavel has been ill, but he promises to get up and about and chase you all!

One of the great J2ski people. Great skier, highly knowledgable, never offensive, always respectful.

billip1 wrote:A happy ending; good news. Hope my ending turns out the same, as I took a fall just before Christmas in Austria. Thinking all I had done was twisted my left knee, and after getting that sorted out very well and very quickly in the local hospital, I came home and thought a few weeks would soon see me back on skis. However, once back home, I developed some pretty nasty headaches, which are not something I suffer from usually, and quickly it was discovered that there was bleeding under the skull which required operating on. The rest of this season is definitely a wash-out; as for next season, we'll have to wait and see, but all the comments above are relevant and helpful. Oh, and yes, I was wearing a helmet, albeit a cheap and cheerful end-of-season offer from a well-known high street sports chain.

Billip, how scary, I am sure I speak for all of us, that we wish you speedy recovery. A head injury is one of the worst fears. My OH and my youngest son both suffered concussion falls.

Both continue to ski, albeit my OH must always be careful. They both now wear helmets.

I doubt if it matters where you bought your helmet, as long as it was internally labelled as EN 1077 compliant. Class B is normal, Class A may be regarded as geared to performance skiers, racer, etc. However, if you do form the opinion that the helmet was in any way defective, then take it up with both the store and the manufacturer. It is an important issue.

Take it easy.

Very good, Broom. Top person. It isn't easy to come back from plaster to piste. Keep up the strength work.... and plan your next venture!

Well done!

That is the case, Icy. Last season, Lech had a March depth of 300cm, but the previous year it had 113cm, same as Obergurgl, and a number of other places.

I would not be feared of going anywhere in Austria in March ~ I will still be skiing there in April.

Not sure if this will work but here's the link to my Ted Ligety impression ;-j on the Sudhang.

Not been released yet, Gaz. I bet it is worth waiting for!

I did warn Admin that the Schiwelt piste map must be the worlds worst! And yes, we got lost, roughly about 200m from the top of the Hopfgarten Gondola! However, we managed to rip up the north side of the Welt to Going, and back down the other side, all within the day.

A couple of days ago, I was going through my box of piste maps ~ not easy, I have several hundred, (many multiples) ~ I had 14 Schiwelt piste maps! I will be adding another couple over the next few weeks!

To be fair, that WAS in the shade.....

Interesting the wind chill factor added -7 grad to -28 grad. Also interesting, other days with a similar 5kph wind speed has no temperature degradation effect.

I have a frosty memory of walking up to the village at 7.30am, waiting for the workers lift, skin tight single layer uninsulated ski pants, -25grad. At the top, the liftie stopped the lift and lifted me out of the chair. I was frozen solid.

Great to have the show back. Graham B does a good job ~ he has improved a lot.

The thought came to me, as I watched Chemmy, ~ this feels the same as when I watched Martin, Graham and Konrad, all those years ago, two to three seconds seems a long way at those speeds. Not too far away from the top 15 though.

Errm,my first skis were wooden Elan Jets, screw in edges. Boots were double lace up, about an inch higher than those that GB wore!

There are those who might say, I haven't moved on much!
