Many of Val D'Isere's and St Anton's blues would be red elsewhere; many of Cervinia's reds would be blue elsewhere. There's no real consistency across Europe - and I doubt there ever will be.

Just to bump this to the top again!
Was wondering if anyone else will be in La Thuile from January 23? Looking forward to it, especially as the weather appears to be taking a turn for the worse(!!!!), getting colder and snowier this week! |

It looks like a beautiful day in La Thuile on the webcams today!
And it is forecast to get colder. Eight-and-a-half sleeps until departure (5.25am flight means only a half next weekend!) |

I'm going on January 23 as well; looking forward to it, especially as it's snowing on the webcams this morning!

Shurely shome mishtake! Ski boots should fit - not be half a size too big or too small, for that matter. And, Wickers, of course I secure my skis with the combi lock to a rack, sign or something else that's fixed! |

I have a small combination lock device that takes seconds to put on and seconds to take off. Piece of mind when stopping at restuarants etc. Many hotels and boot depositories have heated racks these days.

My pleasure; I used to use one of the specialist agencies such as Ski Solutions, but it seems most now do not cater for the needs of the solo skier. Alpine Answers told me so just before Christmas when I made an inquiry.
Searching the brochures can be a depressing experience, although I booked a trip to La Thuile on Jan 23 through the Neilson website and only paid a total of £35 single room supplements. The best results have come through resort websites, particularly in Swisserland, where you can book direct and the single room without supplement is widely available. The J2 booking service has come up trumps as well! I have skied in groups, with friends, family etc, but sometimes it has been a question of go on my own or not ski - so go on my own it is! Good luck, let us know how you get on! |

As a frequent lone skier, might I suggest somewhere where you don't get rooked on single room supplements which means, in the main, Switzerland or Italy. Somewhere high altitude for good conditions at that time of year, of course. I'm hoping to get a short, second trip in March or April, probably solo, and likely to opt for Engelberg, Arosa or maybe Grindelwald if the snow is still good.
