The Belgian riot police look is a cool look - well, it is in Bruges and Bruxelles - although members of the force are not much cop in a riot, unfortunately!

No, Tone, he's seen instructors wearing helmets; you said you'd never seen one!!!!
Snow desperately needed. Happy to say have not booked my March trip and holding off doing so until it snows somewhere....anywhere!! |

The inference, indeed the implication, I took from your post Ian was that because you'd never seen one, then none of them do it. If that was an incorrect conclusion, then I apologise with no reservation and without prejudice!
However, I think that one day in the not too distant future, some insurers will require a properly-fitted, industry standard approved helmets to be worn. I don't think this would be a good thing but I think it will happen. And I would like to point out that on a few occasions, I like to ski without any headwear at all. |

Five out of 27, indeed. As I said earlier, not universal. But I've certainly seen enough instructors wearing crash hats to disagree with the "I never seen one" statement!
And Tony I would never wear a bobble hat - proper ski hat perhaps (see my avatar, taken in 1977 to see the elegant difference!) |

Tony,
Many, many instructors in Canada wear helmets in an attempt to set what they consider a good example. Over the last five years and multiple trips to Switzerland etc, I have seen more instructors wearing helmets - not universal by any means, but certainly a growing number. |

I am always wary of resort snow reports that describe the snow conditions as 'hard' or 'packed'; usually means pretty icy for at least some of the day!
In times like this, ever more important to pick your resort carefully. Certainly not turning into the vintage season early snowfalls indiciated, although I had a good time in Italy, especially on north-facing slopes. |

Hold your nerve, keep an eye on the cams, snow reports and forecasts and pick from there; late March is a wonderful time to go skiing, longer days and reasonably quiet in most places.
As for Serre Che, Tony, good choice BUT the ancient lift system is in desperate need of some investment. Too many old boneshaker chairs that are slow and frequently stop altogether. |
