Hi Jazzbar, welcome to J2Ski.
I did a trip to Soldeu a couple of years ago, and I am pretty sure I cannot remember being able to ski down to Encamp. I have just dug out the piste map, and I wonder if the blue trail you are talking about is actually, what seems to me, to be sector boundaries on the map. Does your map show it going down under the funicamp gondola? Then it breaks at the bottom and starts again into the town. I am pretty sure when we drove down through Encamp that there was no skiing there. The gondola actually comes in and crosses the main road and the station is the wrong side to the mountain. Edit. Changed my mind. I am pretty sure now that they are streams or rivers, not sector boundaries. The blue is much thicker that the actual blue pistes on the map. |

Great news. :D
Don't think of them as black pistes, but more like dark red ones  |

If it is of any help, the lockers at the HahnenkammBahn are superb. 40 Euro for the week gets you a locker with warm blowers for your boots and gloves (two sets of each), space for two pairs of skis plus space for helmets etc. This means you can walk out of your apartment in standard boots and change when you get to the lift.

Brooksy, just did some checking. Seems my estimate of 50 was a bit high (was cramped in there, is my excuse). Anyway, a quick search and then a translate of the original German Wikipedia gives the following..
The 3S-Bahn in Kitzbühel ( position 47.390833333333 12.348888888889) bridges where the valley of the Saukasergrabens and connects the two ski areas Kitzbühel / Kirchberg and Jochberg / Resterhöhe together. Between these ski areas before construction of the railway was only one bus. Launched in January 2005, this cable car has between the "valley" (1780 m) and the "mountain station" (1917 m) in a vertical drop of 137 meters, but a route of 3,642 meters, for the nine minutes are required. The use of only one column leads to an exceptional field length of 2507 meters between the base station and the 80-meter-high column. The plant cost 13.5 million euros, 100,000 euros a cabin. Manufacturer is the Austrian company Doppelmayr. The supporting cables of the web have a diameter of 54 millimeters, the traction cable has a length of 7,500 meters and has a diameter of 42 millimeters. During normal operation 400 kilowatts of electrical power is needed, just about as much like a normal chair. The 19 cabins (up to 24) for every 30 people traveling in a distance of 67 seconds (51 seconds) or 472 meters (360 feet) and can carry up to 3,200 per hour (4,200) people. In the cabin, 1 instead of the usual seating areas, a glass floor is installed, it allows to consider the 400-meter abyss from a different perspective.
