Knee brace(s)
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 16 Replies
Just wondered if anyone (here) use them when they ski.

I've been told that my left leg cruciate and my right leg medial are both starting to show weakness and my physio recommended that I wear a knee brace for skiing. Nothing fancy like the Donjoy but just a hinged/supportive brace like a McDavid or Mueller. I've been reading up on this on other ski (snow-heads) and sports injury forums and the general consensus is that they don't actually do much apart from give that mental support.
Return to Mayrhofen

Tony, we flew into Innsbruck with Thomson in February and:

1) we were delayed at Gatwick for 2 hours because they were making a minor repair. When we finally took off and about an hour away from Innsbruck, the Capt announces that we were going to have to turn around again because there was a minor fault on the plane that could only be repaired at Gatwick;

2) second flight out - we are about an hour or so away and the Capt announces that Innsbruck airport will be closed by the time we land (8pm)so we'll be diverted to Munich. After landing, we are informed that there is an issue with the luggage and then informed that the tour companies hadn't been made aware of the diversion. So, from the original resort ETA of 2pm, we actually get in at 2am the next morning.

I'm still bitter about the whole incident.

But, this digresses away from your question about Innsbruck. The answer to which I don't know.

Aye, I ran a number of 50 mile fell races, for which the training meant doing routine 35/40 mile Sunday runs. After a few years of this, I switched to mainstream cross-country and track athletics. Later, changed to running marathons, starting with the second London marathon.

Even now, I can still walk to the car, several times a day. )

Blimey Dave...I ONLY managed a 12 mile fell run yesterday, which was hard enough! 50 miles is a looong way to run.

I am always fit and so I don't need to do anything specific for skiing.

EmmaEvs wrote:Definitely. I've already reserved my instructor (http://www.1-skischule-wildschoenau.at/skischule1_eng.html)! He helped me loads last year with gaining confidence. This year's mission is to build more confidence, and to get rid of any bad habits that may be creeping in (sticky out bum  !). Aside from that am going to leave it to Walter to decide if there's anything specific I should do next. That approach worked last year so if it ain't broke why fix it?!

I too used the Red Ski School last year. I had lessons with Leon and I found him to be very good. Even though I say so myself, I developed loads over that week.

I think I'd always have some lessons as there's always something you can learn or improve upon.
Niederau 29th January 2011

I wish I was going back to Niederau this season :(

Instead, I'm going to Soldeu :)
It's got to be done, I'm sorry..

My experience of the Red Ski School in Niederau is that it is nothing short of amazing. All the instructors are very good, all speak great English and they all have the patience of a saint. My first time skiing kids were skiing red runs by the end of the week and my wife, who struggled with classes, was given FREE one on one lessons.

As a resort, it might struggle with snow at that time of the year but Dave Mac (the resident Old Guy) will be able to advise you of historical snow depths during January.

As a family orientated resort, it's really good. If you want to cover miles and miles of challenging piste, it's not great.
Moving to Zermatt

Good luck Tino.

I'm not envious though, I mean why would I want to give up living in grey and wet Northampton when I could be living in boring Zermatt...pah!
