Ah,Wickers, nice to of you to address my post and
thanks for the greeting. :D Interesting, that this helmet debate is now more noticeable in this forum. I touched on it last year about my hesitant daughters concerns about snow sports. The Richardson accident, at the time. We went up with a snowboard for her, lasted one day. Amelia, is now a bona fide skier after a few lessons. The helmets bought for her and her Boarder sister were not used though, although they saw the bruise on my face. I suspect the helmets will become compulsory at some resorts, because of the runs they may have with potential black spots underfoot, depending on snow cover. I hope some of the writers to this debate, do not put themselves at risk, just to prove a point in this helmet issue. Survive to ski another day, would be my motto. ) Vince |

While the maddening crowds are in Vancouver and Whistler, I will be in Big White from 25 February, for 10 days.
I need some reccon from BC regulars who have been and love it or dislike it, whatever. So, temps? The conditions? The visibility? The best spot for Apres, formal and of course informal? The best place for ski hire? The best instructors names? Vince |

" Allo, allo."
I see my usual forum stalwarts are at it again. :D Hello from sunny and warm Melbourne 28c today and just peachy. We had a hot November then a cooler and wet December. Christmas Day was just 20c. Perfect for the traditional dishes. I went skiing in August and September in OZ, for about 10 days and we had a late blast of snow in early September. Mt.Buller and Falls Creek were great. I purchased a helmet, getting back on theme, and used it the second day after a side foot shuffle to avoid a Boarder, bang straight onto my noggin and slid for 10 metres on my right cheek. Not fun at all and only slowing into a carve at the time. Unexpected bumps and not giving right of way is a hazard every day. I did buy the right size beforehand and it was snug fit. Yes, i advise getting a hair cut if you do suffer from helmet hair. Going to Canada in February for two weeks, "yipee ki yay" As the world congregates on Whistler, i will try out Big White and Silverstar in peace and quiet. Oh yeah, the helmet is a coming along, less jocks if need be but that baby has a melon to protect. It is 8.45pm here and i suspect most of you are on holidays or at work. Bye for now. Vince |

It is amazing how Punter Ponting is so one dimensional in his emotions. I am not a big cricket fan, but I enjoy this rivalry between OZ and Blighty. It is amazing, that today another 20cms has fallen throughout the local Victorian highlands and more forecast for the week. Hello everybody, from Melbourne, Australia.
Just back last night from 4 days up at Mt. Buller. A white out everyday with a few glimpses of sun in total for 1.5 hours. A hail storm is raging outside at moment. DAMM!!!!! Just heard the news, England survives to draw 1st Test. What the??????????  Geoff Boycott, playing again???????   That was for your benefit Wickers. 50cms of snow greeted my girls and me. The eldest tried snowboarding like her converted boarding younger sibling. One lesson it lasted, the following 3 days she had ski lessons and is hooked and pleased as punch with her grasp and abilities. I will try to post some photos, I hope I meet the requirements of size. My only regret is that i was unable to further my abilities with lessons or time to myself. I had to mind and support the girls. I will go again next month for a week locally or wait for early September in New Zealand. Vincentus Okay, i can not see how to attach my photos?? The attachments button means what? |

I was hoping for a win also, with two games now still remaining. I did not wager
this time. Our Dutch coach Pim Verbeek, is a tactician, first of all it seems. I hope to see them soon in action in Melbourne against Japan. Snow theme time, it snowed again overnight up at the local resorts. It is falling 4 weeks earlier than last year, thank God!!!!!!!! :D By the way I do not know him personally, but Mark Viduka is a neighbour of mine. Well before he went to Croatia, Scotland and England. Hope he is right for South Africa, he was the local kid seen everywhere. GO SOCCEROOS. On the bike this morning and later on a 5km run, must build up snow sports stamina and core strength. Vince |

The Queens Birthday weekend is the traditional start to the snow season in Victoria.
Snow seems to be falling today anyway. Hope there is enough for the eager beavers on Monday. On the news last night, it was mentioned that bookings for Victorian ski resorts have dropped so far. The reason? Swine Flu. We have the largest concentration of sufferers in Australia 951 and counting. That means cheaper lift tickets and food on the mountains! A bit callous? Maybe, but we are in a GFC situation, as well as this health scare. I am smiling, especially after being out of action for 3 weeks because of flu and viral infection. Back on the bike and running to be in best shape for the mountains with entire family in tow come July. Went to a Snow Travel Expo, was impressed with Val D'Isere and Club Med stands. Love those accents and the Austrians were there as well. A lot of Canadian and American resorts on show, as well as the Japanese. GO THE SOCCEROOS qualified for the 2010 World Cup last night in Qatar. |
