Yes,its me again just got up, another sleepless night with my right shoulder in agony. A week now since I crashed out onto the icy pathway to the lift at Big White. I collected no one and yet my skis were 20 metres away and i remember my face, crashing and sliding into the icy snow. Yes, lucky i had my helmet on. The right side took the full brunt, no memory of what happened with my right arm. Just two days off and then finished last two days skiing very slowly. My brother, the Bowens masseuse took me to see his sports injuries workmate yesterday. No, not the AC joint, just ripped up my biceps upper and middle. 2 weeks of more pain :( The helmet thread, i recall reading it a while ago, so thats why i added to it with my observations of Big White, Canada. I was there for 12 days and was amazed with the locals high uptake of helmet wearing. I also defend peoples right to make their own decision with helmet wear. Wow, my careless use of the word "heroes". Oops sorry  Vince |

Sorry Tony, Thats the kind of comment I refer to where people look down on those who dont wear helmets. Your comment above is not me referring to the none wearers in general as heroes. I refer to the ones who fly by on the slow zones and ski aggressively amongst groups of skiers with most of them not wearing helmets. I just found myself uttering the word "Hero" Verbal reaction, thats all i conveyed in my post. Vince |

Just back from Big White, Canada today. The helmet ratio was about 90%. The heroes abound still without their helmets, but majority young and old all wearing helmets. On March 6, a 27 year old snowboarder hit a tree and died. It was reported in the TV news as such and they added,he was not wearing a helmet. I wore my helmet everyday and soon you forget you are wearing it anyway. Vince |

Well, i did go but a week later. Flew out on Mar 3 and just got back today Mar 17. In Big White its still Mar 16 though. A time warp travel, but well worth it. I skied 7 days straight and then crashed on the 8th day and was two days off with shoulder ligaments gone. I still managed to ski Saturday and Sunday, very carefully  Big White is a huge mountain side with lots of runs for all skill levels. The snow is so powdery and light and varies of course throughout the day. Friday was a 10cm snow day and night and was glad to be out there on the weekend. The food varies and suits all budgets. The pubs are good value and so are the cafes and restaurants. Again, you could eat out every night if needed and not blow your budget. I stayed in modest digs at Whitefoot Lodge, somewhere to crash at night. The room service was great and very helpful. No complaints really. Will definitely go back with family or friends next time. Yesterday it was 1 degree and 212cms of snow and all 117 runs out of 118 working. Vince |

AllyG, Thanks for the tips on further exercises. I have been a bit occupied packing and unpacking my case. How much or little to bring and so on. Traveling for one, and got to get it right. The time flies, and I have read Betty's cider drink. I will give that a go as well. It sounds cleansing and an antioxidant drink as well. Vincentus |

I am impressed with such a long thread on fitness for skiing.
You Brits sure can talk and talk and good on you. My routine borrows from football, weights and cardio workouts for core strength and lately yoga for flexibility and balance. A healthy moderate diet and I am feeling fitter than last year. So, in a nutshell and national diets aside, what are the best exercises for legs, arms, core strength? I weighed 102kgs last year and am now down to 90kgs. Discipline really and a desire to enjoy my time in the snow is my motivation. Plus eating well and limiting overeating. Walk away a little hungry? I have 10 days to add something new to the mix before going to Canada. Vince |

To all,
Well done everyone. You are very good Samaritans in helping Little Ski. I concur with all of the summations of the travel agent's efforts or lack there of, in providing good service. I sourced those agencies as well as directly to the Canadian resort i am going to in March. ( Big White) The price differences were amazing. The prices for airfares and then accommodation at the same hotels varied greatly. I do not see the problem as described for the extra days though, the agent is shifty or just lazy. Another customer burned that will not endorse their firm to any friends. A case in point, my ski hire for 10 days was quoted as $350.00 by the agent. I can get it there for $225.00. I know times are tough, but that's a great big extra commission. I hope Little Ski posts her trip and experiences when she returns. I will be curious for I plan to do Europe next northern hemisphere winter. Little Ski, listen to their sage advice on this forum site, plus they are very amusing just to read, after all we are kindred snow lovers. 3 weeks and 2 days till my departure. Yay :D Vince |

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I get the impression it is a resort theme old west type town. I do not mind at all, as long as everyone is friendly then i am okay with that. I will let you know how i get on. Vince |
