Not just instructors with beginner groups either. I Have watched instructor clinics where everyone is so focused on the coach below, that they set off at intervals across the slope without looking up hill.

I know, it beggars belief. If they had the same attitude whilst crossing the road they'd all be dead.

Just back from my 'last blast' in Tignes. An excellent week, suberb snow above 2500m, boot deep slush at resort level
Snowed nearly every night and sunny most days.
Now I've said this before but this summer I WILL get really fit )

Its still looking pretty good although I don't think it will compare with last April.

It's a long time 'till next winter

Binding mounting point

I think my last 2 pairs of skis had the bindings mounted dead centre.

I would be surprised to be honest, if you mean dead center of the ski that is.

Most skis have a mark which is usually where the manufacturer reckons the center of the boot should be. The jig that is used to mount the binding has a pointer which marks the boot center, lining up these 2 marks is how you know where to drill the holes in a standard mount.
There are reasons to vary this position but for a standard piste oriented ski that shouldn't be necessary.
In 42 years of skiing I have never felt the need to have anything other than a standard mount

Dont know much about Austrian resorts I'm afraid.

This might be of help:

But I think you might be a bit late in the season for these resorts
