I paddle a canoe from May till October, it doesn't help with the underlying syndrome but it takes my mind off the symptoms )

Another thing that I noticed was lots of young 'seasonaires' who seem to have in depth discussions about the merits of different skis whilst on the lifts.
You watch them ski and they seem to have a genetic defect which stops them from bending their ankles, the only part of their skis that are in contact with the snow is from the middle of their boot to the tail. The concept of finishing a turn seems alien to them and they make up a large proportion of the people who scare me on the slopes.

Maybe its just old age

:D Nothing thankfully, but sometimes it felt as if lots of people were trying to 'get' me )

That's a relief! I do think that your feeling is real not imagined, and where you were skiing, has a large part to play in the level of anticipation of trouble.

The safest place to ski is off piste...

Definitely!

I think my experience has given me the ability to anticipate fairly well, and it is that alone that has saved me a few times!

Didn't I just :D I skied with some friends on my first day (Friday) who had been there for a week and their tales of trying to get 2 kids down through the slush into Val Claret didn't sound like fun.

Last Wednesday they were shipping snow in by lorry to fill the holes at the bottom of Trolles so it's melting fast.

However, it all changed on wednesday afternoon when Graham took me to the area around the glacier express in Val D’Isere, the snow there was absolutely glorious. The next day it snowed very heavily in Tignes (Neiltoo arrived at the right time!) so the skiing from then on was wonderful.

:D I sort of did, didn't I :D Glad you had a good time.

Never tried them myself, but I've read that a number of racers use them for summer fitness training.
