:D :D :D
Surprised you had to ask :D :D :D I wear shorts 99% of the time even on winter trips to the Alps ( much to the confusion of some elderly French ladies whom seem to lose all concern when they find out I'm English.....explains a lot I suppose....mad dogs and all that ). As for the better half a base and mid layer of clothing nothing bulky though and a half decent windproof/waterproof jacket and she should be fine. Also the obvious hat and gloves shouldn't be left out, a few people I've introduced to skiing over the years have said "what about the cold"....and once they are out on the slopes with all the muscles working the thought of the cold just doesn't come into it for them. I'm sure she will love it have a great trip, and Happy New Year. jon. |

Hi Judi,
Try giving Optimumski at the Chalet Optimum ( Le pre / Villaroger - Les Arcs ) a ring or email. Le pre / Villaroger can be reached via Paris on TGV , SNCF or Eurostar with a transfer by the Chalet from Bourg-St-Maurice Gare Routiere. http://www.optimumski.com/index.htm . From memory they can sort out private lessons etc so should not be a problem. |

Hi,
The route to take would be take the A26 from Calais- then follow the signs from Calais to - Reims - Troyes - Dijon - Macon - Lyon - Chambery - Albertville - Moutiers , from Moutiers just follow the White signs with black lettering for La Plagne/Les Arcs etc to Aime, then from Aime it's just a breeze from there. The drive itself is pretty straight forward as it is motorway all the way until Moutiers, don't forget to have a set of snow chains ( french law ) a spare set of bolbs , two high viz jackets ( french and EU law ), a warning triangle and some beam benders ( again french law, to direct the main beam to the other side of the road so as not to blind oncoming traffic ). Hope this helps in some way and have an enjoyable safe trip, also if you have never fitted snow chains , have some practice before you go so as not to have to try them for the first time in a freezing blizzard at the road side. All the best and Merry Xmas and Happy New Year jon |

Hi Offshore,
There are quite a few things that can affect the overall price, of a months stay in the Alps, have you thought of which areas you would like, also avoiding months which coincide with school holidays would be good.....so avoid February if looking at France for example. You could fly and drive as you say , but for a month unless you are planning on travelling far and wide , maybe just a return transfer might be better. with the actual where to stay bit self catering or half board would be my bet ( for example The Loft or ChillChalet in Bourg-st-Maurice are pretty good ). jon. |
