Eggman, it sounds like your feet are pretty much the same as mine!

Glad to hear you both got away and had a good time. I know that none of my sons would have cancelled their ski holiday if they were in the same position your son was in last week. In fact I wouldn't put it past them to still ski with their wrist in plaster!

Well, I'm very surprised. I thought you were still looking for a new teaching job

I hope it all works out well for you. I did the same as you - moved out of London and the 'rat race' but I emigrated when I was only 19. I've never regretted it.

So, is your OH giving up his job as well, or can he work from home? It's not a bad idea to have some money still coming in regularly when you start a new business, especially to begin with. I have found that start up costs always seem to be more than I have anticipated, and it takes a while to start making a profit.

All the best for your new venture - I think it's a great idea,

Ally

The amount of time I have had off work together with all the skiing I've done has made me realise, even more, how much I don't want to go back to school. Hubby is a sound engineer and musician so will have plenty to do if we do end up running a bar! It's scarey but also exciting...Really need to sell the house before we can do anything though.

Sell house, buy out of London, no mortgage, a bit of money in the bank, explore/research the Alps for a season and look for small bar/cafe! :D

I woke up feeling very glum, no skiing until new year, future plans (which involve a small business in the Alps) seemed a lifetime away and finances dwindling quickly.

Then the estate agent phoned and told me I had been made an offer on the house, my mum came over and told me to book a week in Las Vegas for both of us and she is paying and another couple came to view the house and said they would also be making an offer.

I cheered up and thought what a difference a day makes! :D

I think you are definitely doing the right thing Ally. My boot fitting cost me £150 on top of the cost of the boots too and I cannot stress enough that it was money well spent. Fortunately I was in France and it was the first day of my holiday so I had a week of skiing to make sure they were perfect. My boot fitter was excellent he did study the biomechanics of the ankle joint etc and noticed a slight problem with my left one (I'm not sure what the problem is because their was a bit of a language barrier but he did try to explain by demonstrating on a foot and ankle skeleton). For the last 10 years or so my left knee would swell up within a couple of hours of skiing. I don't know what he did to the boot but I've not had to wear a knee support since and I believe this is a result of having the boots adjusted to address the ankle problem.

Enjoy your day with the boot fitter! :D
